This is something obvious and most vital. A woman works to earn extra so that running the home remains smooth.. With the changing lifestyles and ever increasing prices for everything ranging from pencil to refridgerators , single income may strech the situation . So it important to have double income.

If you see the corporate world today more than 100s of women are working at CEO level and are good mother and a good home maker.This proves that women are completely eligible of playing both the roles of housewife and a professional.Now a days when recession is very frequently hitting the market and nobody job is safe in corporate sector, so having two jobs in a house will help tackling that situation.

If you take one family Mother, Father , Son and daughter in-law also will work, four people will work in one family. Generally if you take present movement in India unemployment is growing. If husband do business and woman work in offices, it will be good otherwise un employment will grow up in India. If woman salary is extra income for Family, but man income is different. eg:- In salary negotiations, woman will not demand much. Investor or HR or Company management will prefer lower salary employees in certain period. ….. guys will lose the opportunity.

hnn. Women doesn't have to go through evolution Mr. Koul! It's whole human race has to further evolve! Nowadays, in this modern era, where women are qualified and educated, lot of things are expected from her...starting from while looking for partner for marriage to handle home, education is required...Men wants everything...like he wants his wife to do job and handle home both...she need to be educated enough for him to choose her...etc...but what about Men? Do men share the household chores equally? Will that ever happen in India? I don't think so... All women who are working has to play so many roles..while Men just has to focus on career and he gets everything almost "ready" at home. He can just relax and watch TV after coming home from job, but can any women who is working and equally/more tired than her husband do that? Even kids' responsibility is primarily of mother's ...so it's natural for women to do certain things like do cleaning cooking or feeding kids even teaching kids...etc...but does Men equally take responsibility of kids in India?

I also believe in self reliance and being financial independent. But marital bliss can be achieved when women is not working. Being successful doesn't mean you are happy! Being happy and being successful are two different things. What all are talking is about comforts that can be achieved by money or needs that can be met by money. But what about other needs which are not met while women work?

Srinivas, I totally disagree with your sense of understanding our community.I think, you can't have contemptuous attitude towards husbands. If you would have seen Bindass channel, you would come across more flaws with women as compared to men, but then you can't compare that way. So, it is all in the context where what applies and how it works and we all evolving and maybe women have to go through the extra grind of evolution.

I would support Ms Shah compared to Smitha, because experience speaks for itself including the results. I am sure Smitha might be aware that there are more no of divorce cases today compared to our parents day way back in 1950 or 1970. In west divorce rates - it is 2 [women]:1 and in India it is low and may be 10 in 100 opt for divorce. The reasons given by the judicial custodies are ladies are not able to manage the family affairs as well as their jobs and other reasons, they lack understanding of daily chores of life in their families. So, we need to learn and ensure that we live happily in our lives by having the right mix of whatever is required for the family's healthiness.

You are right to an extent Smitha, but the reality is coping up with job and the role a mother and wife is expected to play in society is not that easy! Life becomes more easy for both husband and kids if mother is not working. Even for the woman herself, u may think household chores is not "quality work" but as a woman, I don't think so. God has made mother to rear children and rearing children is not easy as such. Anyway, that's my personal view that "role reversal" of women doing men's work and men doing women's work is funny and tragic in a way! As I said before, some natural traits that women have withers away if she has to become 'strong' and 'tough" in handling job and home both as well as kids. Husbands who play role of father and mother both while wife is not interested much in cooking or paying enough attention to kids are suffering a lot. I have an examples!

That may be what you are seeing. Every day am  listening my qualified and educated friends , who are housewives who keep on blaming their husbands and crying and cribbing for no reasons which i feel is stupid and  that they dont have any thing else to do indulge in.

So I totally disagree with you.There may be handful of them who enjoys doing household work and feel proud about it now a days its really a rare scene among the qualified housewives ...I even  advise my friends who are highly qualified and not doing anything will be "engage yourself in some quality work" other than household and child raring which every mom and wives need to do, irrespective whether working or non working.

I fully agree with you, Jugnu. I have been trying to cope up with my job and home for the past three weeks and have realised how difficult it should be for women. My mother was able to bring us 4 brats up as well as bringing up her 7 grandchildren nowadays. And my wife is able to successfully manage the kids as well as her teaching profession. I am waiting for the day when my children's examinations will be over and they will be back in India to join my parents and wife. Kudos to all women on this Womens' Day.

Mr Raju, you are right that more options are available nowadays for women to work parttime and work from home with PC and internet as media. Before such things were not there. But one of my cousin joined teaching job being B-Pharma so that she would not have to work in industry job which is more touch but she found teaching job more difficult since lot of work was being asked to be done even after working hours by School Authorities. I tried work from home job for few days but you won't believe they asked me to remain "online" for 24 hours and work even on weekends. Things are not easy as they seem. Only "women" can understand what it is to cope up with job and home both. It's not a "man" thing to grasp even such a "sensitive" subject!

Not necessarily! There are many professions like teaching, banking, etc., where they dont have to depend on either the boss or the maid. Add to that freelancing, parttime consultations, working from home and so on and so forth. The list is endless.

All these above are achieved when a trained woman works. Even if she is not trained she finds her self-worth in earning and adding to the financial gain for the family and for her own self. She can then rest at night peacefully having spent her day in worthwhile activities. I don'[t mean by this that just looking after children and other dependents is not worthwhile but all those are temporary jobs. Children grow up and fly the nest, dependent individuals pass away. What remains with a woman after all this, if she is not employed? I speak here with experience!

What is left when children fly the nest is "being together of a couple" which makes more room for both husband and wife to spent time with each other which they might not have got while kids responsibilities are there. A partner's need is more felt after the kids leave the nest and that is what is really sharing your life with your hubby. Don't say please "what is left"? if she is not employed...I am surprised by the way people analyze the situation trying to defend their demand of more money which they thing that "more money" will give more comforts and thus more "happiness" which is not the case!

what i feel is now a days the women are being educated equal or more than men. Besides being independent as a working women she adds more strength to her husband Even today in villages women work in the fields and men too go for contractual job.Its the balancing act of life that both women and men should contemplate that is useful to their life.Women are subjugated to the age old manly dominance and felt that they cannot contribute to the growth of the nation or the family.its age old thought.Present times women have to work to carry on their normal work but have to balance their family and work together where it is required. there is no compromise in it.

Inevitable for Peace at home.

When a homemaker will start working it will have n numbers of advantages. First of all the Disposable income of the family as a whole will increase as asserted by Amrita. Then she will be spending most of her time on some kind of more creating work and above all the chances of quarrels will reduced which will maintain peace. And as Lord Krishna had mentioned - where there is a peace there is a progress - will lead to ultimate progress of the family as a whole.

Thanks,Rohit for referral. Amita, there is a contrast in debate. I mean picture of women carrying loads or doing labor and your headings.I was saddened to note that even women writers put forwarded arguments in support of generating income. In my view the single most factor that she also wants that society accepts her also as bread earner,or social head.There is no doubt that her income will add to the kitty of home earning,but it is also a fact that she feels proud of helping her family.So,I come to the point working women have advantages in core decision making,like good education for her children.proper savings,vacation,respect in the eyes of in laws and her say in other social issues.

In today's changing world majority of our women whether in urban or in rural areas would like to work. It is not only for the financial independence but to be a part of the changing society.Today our women folk would like to to be as equal as men.

Women can never be "equal" as men. No need to tell the reasons! Men and Women has their own different existence which compliment each other. For e.g. Men needs to be strong, more capable of earning, courageous so he is able to protect women while on the contrary, women needs to be soft, emotional, sensitive which she already is generally sine she has to play the role of giver as a mother and as a wife and also socially! If it is opposite, like if women try to be like Men, all natural qualities of women gets destroyed since she has to perform the role like Men at work showing less emotions or sensitivity thus making her like Man...ahhh u know then what happens? Men has to start taking responsibilites which generally women take like providing food for kids and taking care of them thus making Men like Women...TOTAL ROLE REVERSAL!:-) I have seen such kind of thing happening in my near acquaintances!

This is the only point I have to agree! Yes, they don't have "time" to poke their noses into other houses! But this is what...as a Woman..I like the most! Gossiping is sometimes healthy since you know what others are doing. If gossip is harmless, there is nothing wrong in doing it infact it is healthy since you feel connected and you stay connected with other people, families more as you know what is happening around! And I have to add here that this doesn't mean that "working women" are not gossiping! They do it all the way while at office and on phone!:-)

If you take one family Mother, Father , Son and daughter in-law also will work, four people will work in one family. Generally if you take present movement in India unemployment is growing. If husband do business and woman work in offices, it will be good otherwise un employment will grow up in India. If woman salary is extra income for Family, but man income is different. eg:- In salary negotiations, woman will not demand much. Investor or HR or Company management will prefer lower salary employees in certain period. ….. guys will lose the opportunity.

Who says working like a clerk or any such job which does not require brain to work will result in more active brain? I dont' think so, personally I feel sometimes working like a "donkey" which most people do results in dull brain infact. I have seen "smart" housewives which are much sharp than working women!Here, actually all are trying to make a point of "financial independence" and "double income" as an asset adding value to family and nation which is not the case. If you calculate the productivity of women working at home, it is more than working at job for 8 hours!
