Hi, I would say that if handled well Social Media can work positively. At an individual professional level one should put forth one's experience this works well for people to know your knowledge level and builds your credibility. When your credibility builds people will connect with you and hopefully you do generate leads.

Social Networking websites are the sites that is been used most acitvely these days. For Example, Facebook has 800 million active users, twitter has 200 million active users, recently started Google + has 50 million active users. All this shows that people around the are world are giving so much of importance to Social Media, especially professionals of every age group. They consider it as a technology growth and take maximum advantage of these sites. This will give them maximum visibility irrespective to geographical boundaries and thereby networking with maximum people and learning many new things and creating new opportunities.
