Today every building being constructed undergoes site investigation by consultants or the government. What do you think are the benefits of site investigation...... Do you get the same benefits if we are not doing it ????

It cuts cost of remove and replace

idea posted by Anjali Sinha Construction-Heavy, Sobha Developers

Hey good idea contest Arun......

If no proper investigation is done on the sites it leads to increased cost. For instance you may drill the ground to install bore but there might be some sewage canal or some electrical pipes underneath. So site investigation will tell you what is where and what to do. Else you need to remove the existing and replace a new one which increases cost.....

i do agree as the site investigation(in other words soil exploration) helps us to know the underground water level which leads to decide  the type of dewatering  system to be followed and the cost also. Some clients would like to go basement especially to get area for parking else they avoid basement construction based on the soil investigation report.

In addition to this  with this site investigation report   the building will get NOC from all the department like Mechanical electrical  as to avoid any damages to cables as well  the personnel.

I think site investigation will give better knowledge on what to construct. Having the site investigation report we can build better buildings with better features.....

By doing site investigation we can know what kind of foundation can be used, so it will be suitable for that soil strata. we can also minimized risk..............

proper site investigation leads to proper size and position of foundations. as foundations finally  transfers the load on sub soil ,if sub soil site investigation is done properly then we could get optimum design with required factor of safety.

Site Investigation helps us to know better about the land (soil type and land profile) So that the structural designer decide which type of foundation is required for the basis of soil bearing capacity. It is very important for planning any structure.

Land investigation is a important step to mitigate the risk about the project. Land often hides the many unrevealed elements under it and which gives the uncertainty to the planning and execution. It is likely that the Land is contaminated or it has some active/inactive service pipeline underneath. Higher Water table or stream is another very common problem. These all problems, later on discovery, causes the delay of the projects and ultimately huge loss of money. A proper site investigation report gives clear idea and direction to the planning and reduces the risk.

Economics of Site Investigation

idea posted by Dipak Bhattacharya Chief Engineer, A private Ltd Consulting Co. in Delhi

It is similar to asking question "What are the benefits of Medical Tests?"

My counter-question is how big the Construction will be?And how important the purpose of the structure will be?

Thanks.

With a Site investigation goes a detailed summary of all required aspects of the place including the soil type, level balance, filling status etc. It also gives a clear idea of how long the settling down of add-up soil shall take to settle, or what weight parameters are to be used. Site investigation helps in picturing the entire process beforehand on paper and mind, in a more lucid and certain manner. It is a necessity.
