a sinlge point of failure system versus a redudant multipath system. The plain spoke ring approach to wifi is one of its major failures..... of many |

mesh also uses 2048 bit encryption from node to node, which will cover your security issues.

the type of wireless (wifi versus mesh) also discates security, locatiosn and security as well, but the type of wireless does make it self heal and mutlipath which is a great solida foundation for your wireless network to be cultured on.

According to me security is very important, You absolutely MUST think about security if you implement a wireless network at your home or at the office. If you think you are helping out your IT department by putting an access point up in your office so you can move the stuff around your desk more freely, you are mistaken. If you have done this without setting up any kind of encryption, you have just opened a huge back door entry to your companies network system. At home, you may not be so worried, but Someone next door could easily setup a phishing scam in the next door, and use your wireless connection for the internet access. Then guess whose door the Police will come. So encryption is a must, I highly recommend using WPA and not WEP because WEP has been proven to be easily crackable.

Yes WEP is easily crackable and even i also recommend people to use WPA rather than WEP. I agree with Jitena on this..

Before setting up anything, you should do a site survey sort of thing. You walk around your home or office and look for things that can cause interference. Map out the things and take notes. Take a laptop with netstumbler installed and look for other wireless networks in range and see what channels they are on. Some things that can cause problems are like, microwave ovens, cordless phones, cuz both these and wireless have the same frequency so they will get interfered. Concrete walls not because they are very thick n all but mainly due to water in these concretes it will always be curing so water in concrete interfers with wireless, So placing these things is of utmost important....

The manufacturers of your wireless equipment frequently come out with firmware updates for their products. If you notice any issues with your router or card, look on the manufacturers website for a possible firmware update. Lots of times, the update can correct the problems you are having.
