By careful selection of materials and technologies in order to reduce consumption, it is possible to significantly reduce emissions such as carbon-di-oxide . There are  some of the available and usable technologies in India, which have proven to be successful after the years of trial by engineers and architects from different parts of the country. There may be more such technologies, since India is a country of diversity and rich cultural and architectural heritage. It may be noted that cost-effective construction technologies do not compromise with the safety and security of the buildings and mostly follow the prevailing building codes. So what are those technologies?? share your views on this, by which everyone can benefit!!!!

Rat-trap bond wall

idea posted by Pradeep Khanna Construction-Heavy, DLF
The rat-trap bond is usually laid by placing the bricks on their sides having a cavity of 4" (100 mm), with alternate course of stretchers and headers. The headers and stretchers are staggerd in subsequent layers to give more strength to the walls. The main advantage of this bond is the economy in use of bricks, giving a wall of one brick thickness with fewer bricks than a solid bond. Rat-trap bond was commonly used in England for building houses of fewer than three stories up to the turn of the 20th century and is still used in India as an economical bond.

I too agree with suggestion. similarly, the cement consumtion upto some extent get reduced which is major ingradient in mortar, research on cement saving is to done.

Of- course it is better  for  economy & insulation point of view, but in case of load bearing wall  can it be safe?

yes unlike conventional construction, abundant use of bricks and cement is avoided with rattrap bond for walling. A normal nine inch wall can be made with invisible vertical cavities. This saves 20 percent of bricks and mortar....

Filler slab in roof

idea posted by Sumit Singh Construction-Heavy, Sobha Developers
This is a normal RCC slab where the bottom half concrete portions are replaced by blocks. These filler materials are so placed as not to compromise the structural strength, result in replacing unwanted and non-functional tension concrete, thus resulting in economy. These are safe, sound and provide aesthetically pleasing pattern ceilings and also need no plaster.

Idea Sound good as long as the thermocol sandwitched between bottom layer and top of concrete is not subjected to load when the building is occupied with design load.

Instead if the same thermocol can be placed on formwork (soffit of slab) and removed after concreting (similar to rib beams with slab) will it not become cost effective???

Yes this type of design is more suitable for large spans where thickness of slab will be too large say in range of 350 to 400mm . Then the hollw blocks are used to save on concrete wasted in tension. In Mumbai recently a construction is used using thermocol cubes embeded while concreting the slab. they concrted lower portion of slab then laid thermocoal blocks in a predetermined paten and then laid concrete. this served two purposes one self load was reduced, second economy and third insulation

Brick arches

idea posted by Shravan Kumar Construction-Heavy, Sobha Developers
The traditional RCC lintels which are costly, can be replaced by brick arches for small spans and save construction cost up to 30–40% over the tradiditional method of construction . By adopting for procuring building materials from a distant place arches of different shapes blended with brick corbelling, a good architecturally pleasing appearance can be given to the external wall surfaces of the brick masonry.

sound good but i don't think that reduction of cost is around 30 - 40 %.

Precast and Plaswall

Labor costs are high. Cant we use precast ? or new techniques like Plaswall ?
