As there is already Banner ads, pay per call, pay per click, organic links or sponsored links which are only the tip of the iceberg. Vendors and businesses needs to shift their focus away from copying Internet business models to creating new ones for mobile and, in particular, to cash in on the apparently insatiable appetite for and the viral spread of user generated content. So what are the different possibilities of mobile marketing that can be there? Share your views on this..

Convergence, Data Management, Technology

idea posted by Vijay Bhaskar COO, Divami Software Private Limited

As you have rightly pointed out, it is still the tip of the iceberg. There is in my opinion limitless possibilities here - limited only be the imagination and the networking skills of the individual/company.

1) Most of the people are slowly geting into no call registry - that is one way of looking at data and see how that info can be used - why dont they want to get calls, or do they want only specific calls? Can this info be tied to the location that they are in or the business that they are in? Can products/services be linked and then the messages/calls be made from this established decision?

2) RFID, 3G, 4G? etc are going to be the next steps. So are the products, retailors, shops etc ready to promote their products/services using these technologies?

3) Convergence - how can i do everything using just a mobile? I should be able to shop, buy, sell, order info, see where i am going, control my home security, get live feed on traffic, weather, etc.

But the most important aspect that I believe is about the adaptation of other media or the availability of the technology and the most important of all - do the companies, product/service providers want to do it? what is the ROI, etc for this.

These are 2 cents of my thoughts..

Yes vijay is right here, i guess convergence is going to be the next big thing, and as there is already the news in the making about the 3G and 4G..with all this there is huge scope for marketing in terms of mobile as a medium which will have a huge impact in the coming days..

Pay per referral

Actually this is a tried and tested advertising model that needs to be refreshed for mobile. The introduction of mobile coupons and vouchers will mean friends and family can send or refer someone to content, services, ringtones, music and so on at the click of a button.

Competition advertising for the enterprise

idea posted by Surendra Sinha Senior Consultant, Tata Administration Services (TAS)

This is something that i saw in an article where something new that is being experimented with in Asia. Basically, enterprises push advertisements via existing business channels.

In Japan confectionary manufacturer Lotte has teamed up with marketing company Index to create a fortunetelling service to promote its chocolate-filled, koala-shaped biscuits. Each biscuit is decorated with a cartoon koala. There are 217 different designs.

To have their fortune told, consumers choose a koala biscuit, take a picture of the design on it with their camera phone and send it as an attachment from their phone’s email address. An image recognition server recognises the design and sends a return email telling the fortune of that particular koala.
The email also invites the consumer to join the official koala biscuit community on Gocco, Japan’s biggest mobile-only, social networking site.

Elsewhere, chocolate companies could, for example, run a competition for the best SMS that describes, in 160 characters, the sensation of eating chocolate. Voting for the best SMS could be free, in return for receiving advertising push via voice, SMS, WAP or email.

Mobile advertising wallpaper

According to me in a recent update i came across that mobile advertising wallpaper is one such mobile marketing concept that is becoming a trend like. Instead of banners that consumers click to see content, screen backgrounds should change to reflect advertising or sponsorship. And believe me guys this is an easy and effective way to push a service without waiting for the consumer’s response. Basically all advertisers are winners because their message is always visible and the content accessible.

Audio advertising

idea posted by Shyamal Maity Sales/BD Manager, AT&T

Podcasting which is already a hit on the virtual world, it is set to be huge on mobile also, which after all, is made for audio. Instead of using data streaming as a way of podcasting, providers should look at ways of taking advantage of the voicemail mechanism.

It is like providing free access to voicemail when overseas in return for listening to an ad for a few seconds. This is simple to do and could revolutionise mobile marketing..
