As web is more visual than any other software. In application software more or less, the visual component is standard and so is navigation. But in web this has no boundary or rigidity. Client being one of the stake holder gets closer to the visual factor in practice and this results into a lots of change requests. In almost all SDLC model, change requests always make a cycle to complete. Keeping client out of the development when it is not required is very difficult for a web project, specifically if it is medium sized one. |

At times client does not understand the whole working process and i do agree with Shirish. It happens not only with web but with other software development activities. Its not about only color scheme, sometimes they do ask for some more parameters, forms or reports etc.
I agree with Mr. Jha, in a small or medium enterprise its difficult to keep the consumer from being involved in the project development and many or most of the times they might not have an exact idea about the end product themselves hence the designing part in the PDLC is tiresome. The client might suggest certain changes to the website just for the sake of suggesting a change or because his friend suggested that it could be better with a different colour scheme. You might be willing to make that change only to realize that you have to put it back to as it was, though it results in the loss of time and obviously it means money and due to high competition in the market you have to refrain yourself from adding that cost to the final bill because you might end up making the client unhappy and lose further references. Not to forget I am only talking about lower end projects here and smaller businesses for bigger projects obviously the cost margin is more hence you can afford to experiment more.

I do agree with Mr. Tripathi on the budget matter but to me,the profit and cost is more important. In the age of open source and freeware it is very hard to survive in the market. The cost must be competitive as well as your quality should be supreme. Now following a process, involves additional expenditure. Like one needs to maintain configuration and version controlling. One should also have a well structured project management system, a well defined estimation process. All these bloats up the development term and time is money, so in the end the development cost. At the same time one will know more how raise the cost, more one is getting into the edge of the market. So this in between the line situation will always haunt you, will leave you dwindling in your decision. |

According to me a web development project budget can be as low as $50 and can be as high as million dollar. If you are following a process, then you cannot discriminate between two projects in terms of money. The reason is simple. If you say, that you will put all projects above $500 in SDLC, then what about a project worth $450? What basic difference in terms of time and complexities can a project worth $450 and another worth $550 have? So it is very difficult to discriminate project as per budget. |
