In early days & today also parents have high expectations on their children. They want their children to become what they want them to be. They pressurize them & also demotivate them.....these can sometimes take serious turns.

Some can handle the pressure while others cann't....So, what are the various effects of career goals on children & students??

Depression

idea posted by Kriti Das HR Manager, ANZ Information Technology

Mostly early goal setting is good but it pressurizes the child that leads to a serious depression. And we all know that in depression nothing happens properly....

Thanks for the referal Ms kirti

Parents expect a lot from their children and when the target is not filled more pressure is usually put on their small minds, leading to depression and withdrawing from others.

Yes kritti, it is parental anxiety & pressure do push children to depression. Each child is gifted with unique intelligence & capacity.  Parents should identify that and set goal for them.   Parents should not forget that unlike in olden days, present economical scenario is different & youngsters has got lot of opportunities and fields to prove them self. Parents should abstain from herd mentality.

Love them, encourage them anything they do good, instill confidence in them. check their aptitude & interest accordingly choose professional course/career to them. No over expectation from them.  But monitor their activities constantly be a supportive  parent by working on their strength. Be firm while dealing with them.

Once they grownup & settled down in their career, definitely they do love& respect you for upbringing & adopt same attitude & policy  for their future generation.   Life is precious, Lets Live it.

Parents should encourage children to identify their strengths and not pressure them using some pre conceived notions. When a growing child identifies his/her strength on their own, there is a sense of ownership and motivation to achieve.

Often parents try to make children achieve what they themself did not. That is usually a disaster. Expose the children to various career options based on their strengths and encourage to select.

I agree with you Ramesh Ji, Parents should help their children in identifying their goals in life. Instead of that it has become a fashion where parents force their children to pursue what they failed to achieve in their life.

Poor Development

Due to the pressure of career goals students don't develop properly thus this hampers their productivity. Their other activities do get affected. Parents don't realize this but this can be very dangerous in the long run.

MANY PARENTS WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO ACHIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE NOT ACHIEVED.IN THE GUISE OF GETTING A SECURE FUTURE FOR THE CHILDREN THEY THRUST  THEIR AMBITIONS INTO THE CHILDREN IRRESPECTIVE OF THE CHILDREN`S CALIBRE,INCLINATION,CAPABILITY,SKILLS ETC.MANY CHILDREN FIND IT DIFFICULT TO ADAPT THEMSELVES TO THE WANTS OF THEIR PARENTS.THIS HAS A TELLING EFFECT ON THE CHILDREN.PARENTS SHOULD GIVE ENOUGH FREEDOM TO CHILDREN GIVING IMPORTANC TO THEIR CHILDREN`S LIKES ND DISLIKES.THEY SHOULD CONFINE THEMSELVES WITH ONLY GUIDING THEIR CHILDREN AND LET THEM TAKE THE DECISION.

When people are made to go into fields where their natural talents do not lie, there is rampant non-professionalism.
