The future scenarios in the construction sector needs adequate interventions to improve innovation and productivity in the construction sector which might lead to the sector drifting into undesirable scenarios where the companies have limited capacity and incentives to improve competitiveness through innovation, workforce development and putting high premium on quality.

In scenario where companies pursue competitive advantage through focusing on innovation, quality, sustainability, competence development, and attractive working conditions is sought for. Thus, framework conditions and regulatory components must support competitive strategies putting a high premium on quality, innovation, and sustainability.

So users, What are the future qualification and skill needs in the construction sector?

Lately there’s an improving knowledge about BIM in the construction industry, but it’s still often mistakenly considered as a design software . Real BIM goes so much further than that, and is actually more a methodology that is enabled by and incorporates new design and collaboration technology. As building professionals in the Middle East adopt BIM, more awareness is required regarding data interoperability and co-ordination between various participants in the design and construction process. So I think BIM professionals will we in great future demand in construction industry.

BIM & green technology in building will enhance .....

The green key technologies of interest are:

  • Energy & Resource Efficiency (HVAC systems, daylighting, water management and re-use)
  • Alternative Energy Development (self-contained solar, wind and other power sources)
  • Advance Material Use (for insulation, walls, windows, structural)
  • Information Management (energy modeling, sensors, life cycle assessment)
  • Environmental / Health (occupant health & comfort, waste reduction, carbon emissions management)

As to support competitive strategies putting a high premium on quality, innovation, and sustainability. This will require investments in workforce development and innovative work organisations, practices that are endorsed by the social partners and the public

their are some strategy based upon to focus on this objectives...Attracting and retaining a qualified workforce,Enhance the development of human capital in the these sector,Improve and "future-proof" skills, strategies of BIM is not just the adoption of new technology, but also incorporates new collaborative workflow. There is more emphasis on collaborative design and planning in the beginning phases of a project, so that costs and risks in later stages like construction and operations (where most of the costs are incurred) may be managed and contained.

As proffessionals are shifting loyalities, leaving and joining projects without any accountability,a data bank should be formed for all proffessionals joining industry, and it should be made mandatory to be registerd with this bank in order to get a job.The potential employer should have a right to the past track record of the proffessional ,other than relying on his face value and committmment level.this will result in accountability among proffessionals and the industry will become more wise in recruitment. The employee will think twice before switching over. This will in turn increase committment levels.
