By designing buildings with efficient floor plans and with wall dimensions that match standard lumber sizes, architects can significantly reduce waste and cut materials and energy costs. Waste management plan should inventory the projected waste streams, set goals for recycling and reuse, and detail procedures for materials handling, onsite management, and transportation. Compiling the plan will allow you to estimate the net cost or savings for separation and recycling. |

Yes! we can do the same through recycling process. Though we are not following the same as it is a costly affairs for middle income group. Our Govt. has to think for the same. Even we are saying very easily regarding rein-foresting though is it followed by us. No, I feel no one is following the same in their works. But it is requested to all in our country in India it is very much required. As there may be short fall of drinking water very shortly. We have to save waste in this fashion so that no one is suffer. We have to develop a design for water treatment plant in low cost.
Hi,
Good subject, waste mangement should be in top priority in a construction, one should start it from the design stage itself.Develop the strong policy - R3 -REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE,DEVELOP A POLICY BASED ON IT,IMPLEMENT IT,CHECK FOR ITs EFFECTIVENESS.Top management should be commited towards the policy.Seggregating the waste, timely removal of waste in time and disposing it in correct location.Implementing correct engineering method to reduce the waste generation,if possible recycle and reuse it in construction.
We also need to think of new construction techniques & / or methods of use of construction waste.

Since people are not aware of this construction waste management system, it is being difficult to implement these recycling product in to the market. So the government should conduct some awareness program for the public. The public are having a wrong opinion that the recycled product are not as strong as the non recycled product. So the government and the other private construction companies should construct some sample buildings to make the people understand the benefits of recycled products. |

Dear all,
Our govt.and social workers need to work hard to make aware public through various forums such as dedveloping recycle plant and reusing that product effectevely in profitable manner.also the construction companny itself bring up sound ideas to reuse their waste for their own projects.for example debris can be crashed and can be used as gravels for some work in the construction itself.many biodegradable waste can reuse effectively if there is a will.good engineering and loss prevention department (hse)effectly and strictly added in each sector.
All sustainable and energy efficient policies shud be brought into the syllabus of Higher schools and 10+2 colleges. And when a student let he/she be of any favulty will be aware of this, and when they enter there graduation their ideas are developed, matured and they will start using these policies from their college days.
Yes i agree to this answer , public also not aware from hazards which some of these waste may cause, it is neglected because they consider possibility of occurence of accidents nil. Everyone involve in construction cycle even labours must be given awareness about waste management. Efficient construction techniques should also helpful in reducing waste

Friends, I am setting-up a precast yard plant for Proposed Construction of Approach Bridge. Main berths, Mooring Dolphins and Storage yard. At first stage I need a proper access for heavy/construction vehicles movement so that I could do the precast yard setting-up. As such, we proposed to use our construction debris as our hardcore base materials. We also prepared used/scraped rubber tyres for our rail track base infilled with batching plant waste materials. This has given us a good foundation for our onwards structures work throughout the precast yard operation till the end of the production. Its only involves us the machineries. Why not try this as an alternative way. Thanks & regards, Mohamed, Alrifae |

Well said Alrifae & Shashi. I support you. Yes that is true we should avoid using such material because they are difficult to recycle. We should try use some recyclable material.
Thanks :)
That's a good idea but must be sure that the construction debri should not include construction chemical waste as that could harm the ground water also plastic and other non biodegradeble materials should not be mixed with the construction waste.

Dear all,
The First thing required in construction waste management and perhaps the most neglected one is the lead indicators and lag indicators pertaining to generation of waste from the used material and safety factors.
As per my professional experience goes, i have seen many flagship companies including big stalwart organistions., the safety factor is only upto usage of helmets and shoes.some companies go for experts in scaffolds and nothing else.
But, the main thing required is perventage of waste produced from the used construction raw materials, your plans for the safe disposal of the same, the budget percentage you fix for delegation of these things.
This factor is seriously observed in Dubai construction companies, where as the same is not much serious in Indian scenerio.
If the construction flagship companies think about this, then comes waste reducing techniques, design and so on.
It is very sorry status as far as Indian construction scenerio goes that people are bothered only for minimal safety needs only upto that of helmet and shoes and nothing else perhaps till they experience a scaffold accident.
If you are serious about the other factors, you can mail me and plenty of useful budgetery suggestions are in safety professionals think tank and knowledge bank.
Pls reply if required by heart, mind and soul and not for simple bannerism and advertisement.
Thanks and regards

Envoirnment Management Plan (EMP), Safety and Social Issues due to Generation of Construction Waste in Construction Industry

Dear All, This is very important and crucial issue to be discussed in length and breadth involving all angles of a Contact Agreement formed between Employer and Contractor and my initial comments are appended as below:: I(A) PRELIMINARY INTRODUCTION - Majority of the Contract Agreements are based on FIDIC Conditins of Contract with latest edition. -The Donar Agencies like WB. ADB, USAID Funds and like wise etc., are having concern on the subject cited issues. -Currently the issue of Global Warming is a HOT TOPIC and all World Leaders are busy to resolve this in various Forums and deliberations are going on. I will continue in my next writing on the subject. GOD bless all the Readers. Sincere regards to all Readers,
CAPT GANGA RAM RATHEE Team Leader, SCOTT WILSON INDIA PVT LTD.

major construction sites generate waste like metal, concerete, chemical , biodegradable, plastics, packing etc; which requires seperate disposal method. Create a policy and make it part of the contract with all stake holders to follow during construction and implement strictly. This will help use certain waste with in the premises and balance dispose at a preset interval.

Wherever possible the contract shal stipulate and also reward the re-use and re-cycling of construction waste. |

There is 1% hike in excise duty on coal in the budget 2011-12. It will be adding to the cost of coal and increased coal price. The prices of A and B grade coal have already increased by more than 100 percent in recent times. Price rise in rest of... |
Dear Sir, This is the issue faced by many of us. You especially have an issue of untrustworthy people in your business. Its human nature to cheat in the absence of their subordinates. Don't employ a lot of supervisors...as it will create a mess. Have... |
I agree with you Sir. Time is running bad for many companies it seems. But I hope that things will change soon. |
