Fraudulent charges, chargebacks etc are responsible and hence to be accounted for ecommerce in India. To add to it, still consumers don’t get that world class service which gives a seamless experience. They might be greeted by a poorly designed landing page of the gateway which will ask a million questions even if user wants to pay by netbanking. This might lead to low conversion rates. |

As a customer we are not confident about 2 things for product / service being ordered online. One is lack of vital information which we as a consumer cross verify when we physically see the product is not available online. Second How shall I as a customer get my money back if the product / service being offered does not meet my expectations?
This is only reason, i do not want to buy goods online. I have had a very bad experience in 2006. I have ordered for an electronic item online, from a vendor pamplet ad which i have recieved along with my monthly credit card statement.
I placed the order online, did not get confirmation page, but the page was not found. Then again ordered by calling to that vendor customer care. Finally i got the 2 orders delivered to me by the vendor. I sent back /returned 1 product immeaditely without opening the parcel, but till now today, that money was not credited to my credit card ac. I am not using this place to complain, but telling the worst system we have. The product was also not up to the mark as promised.
I would like to add another barrier point is "Lack of Proper Cyber Laws".
Now, Except online shopping, I do everything on net. Online cash transfers, online bill payments, etc. I think there is The merchants. I would have continued my e-shopping, if did not faced that worse experience.

See... In India only negligible number of population have made use of Ecommerce technology atleast once. Other than from IT sector, no other Industries are really making use of the ECommerce Technology. Actually Industries like Hospitality, Pharma, Electronics has a wide oppurtunity to spin atleast ten times their current profit if they make use of the ECommerce Technology. The best part of ECommerce is that anybody from any part of the world can be a customer for clients products or services. Marketing is expanding worldwide in just seconds. What we need to do in India is to spread awareness about this technology and what revolution it is going to bring in each sector.

There is still a lack of trust in the security of payments made electronically and I think it is justified as it is a common fact that we as consumers like anything that is free, copied or pirated as with the case of so many products and services that we know and don't pay for.So I suppose the thinking goes that if we can copy it then how secure will it be.So this points to the fact that when we give credit and pay for the actual prices of so many products then we will actually trust the payment security of the eCommerce sites. It is a mindset and habits that we need to change and adopt it as a regular practice then everything becomes standardized and payment and security issues get resolved. This will take time and practice.

I have had a very bad experience in 2006. I have ordered for an electronic item online, based on a vendor advertisement pamplet, which i had received along with my monthly credit card statement. I placed the order online, but did not get the confirmation page, but the page shown was "HTTP 500 error-Page not found". Then again i ordered by calling to that vendor customer care. Finally i got the 2 orders delivered to me by the vendor. I sent back/returned 1 product immediately without opening the parcel. I have complained to the vendor and the credit card customer care many no of times with my own expenses as they don't have toll-free no and some times, i don't have a BSNL landline. Till now today, that money was not credited to my credit card a/c. Here, I am not using this place to complain about someone, but telling the worst system we have. The product was also not up to the mark as promised. I would like to add another barrier point is "Lack of Proper Cyber Laws". Now, Except online shopping, I do everything on net. Most of the sites don’t carry any digital data for their products. No nice looking photographs, no digital data sheet, no mechanism to check the daily prices, and to sites not updated. |

We don’t trust sellers even in retail and try and bargain hence trust in ecommerce is tougher to find. That behavior won’t change unless more and more single people shop for themselves and choose online over offline for convenience and time saving measures. Also there is a lot of inefficiency in service delivery post transaction. |
