Everybody is excited about the new technology...cloud computing. Cloud computing will bring revolution to the way business is done today. But there are some unexpected problems which we as end users might face at the end of the day...

So, what are the issues one could face with cloud computing??

Real cost

idea posted by Ankitha Associate/Sr. Associate -(Technical), Eventures

Cloud providers can look awful expensive compared to in-house if you have lots of hidden costs. Effectively they are doing your ABC for you and some managers don't like to know.

Thus the real cost is never known...

Ownership of code and data

One can never get the assurity of ownership of data he /she uploaded into the cloud system. When the receivers padlock the provider's doors, how do you get your data and code back?..this is really risky & we should avoid it

Well, its difficult to put everything in provided three options as all three of them play a very important role in success as well as failure of cloud computing. Yes, there are fear around who will be owner of data (but that can be sorted out with proper legal agreement in place, with worldwide rights).

I feel security is and will be one of the biggest factor in coming days of cloud computing. As other three options you mentioned can be sorted out with negotiations while security is something clients will not be ready to negotiate or compromise.

Taniya , i feel Apart from code and Data security, Vendor Independence , Application Availability, Business Continuity and  Disaster Recovery issues need to be taken care

Network Infrastructure

As the demand for the speed in connectivity grows, more bandwidths, more databases, high capacity servers, new wireless technologies requirement.

With cloud computing the PC will just be your netbooks as you b requiring only web browser to do anything. Its just a client without os/applications loaded on the sys. Then you can have ur smartphones to do the same...its crazy where this will lead to....like "Inception" dream with in a dream...may end up in a loop & hard to track things.

New threat: "e-terrorists"!!

idea posted by Siddharth P Implementation Specialist, EMC Storage

Cloud computing today gives you mixing of various heterogeneous environments and allowing an admin manage his complete environment by a single interface .On the back end, the interface would speak to different vendor systems and perform tasks across all of them.

Example in a storage environment - You have a backend mix of EMC DMX, HP XP48000  & IBM XIV systems ,  you could carve your data luns across these arrays .

Why would you want to do that when usually corporates stick with a single vendor itself , you would not mix multi vendor as it causes issues with "Ownership" who is responsible and who is going to fix this.

the company who would implement the Cloud computing model would a always push to the backend physical system vendor and the vendor would viceaversa

Why did they bring in cloud computing ??

With todays reliable systems Example Storage ( as i belong in this domain) . The companies have been given assurance of their production env being up for a very very long time also all systems today work perfectly no issues watso ever no need to make any change, i have seen systems in production today with storage from 80's with a scsi disk drive of 4GB yet it works perfect. So cloud computing is a desperate effort by corporates to make companies once again start make big investments like they did when the IT boom happened.

There is no great deal of benefit in cloud computing as  current model itself works perfect i.e. site replication , redundancy, distance coverage, performance, other features ...but if everything is perfect the then where do i as a corporate make new sales .. support money is good but not enough

So make the world feel Cloud Computing is the future and force them to move into it and pack up some new bucks and new issues for support increasing profits and money flow into IT.

Cloud computing does not have a physical ability to do something totally new from the extraordinary with a physical system like increasing performance... it only is more upgrade on the software level enhancing tasks performed on management station

.. i prefer having single vendor systems in my env and having complete awareness of connectivity and configuration giving me best performance and easy troubleshooting

Except Data Security! Everything is gud in Cloud Computing!

But I have seen, where critical data can be stored in the clients DB server itself making it secure and not abailable to the Hybrid Cloud!

Data Privacy and security is a growing concern for the enterprises for adopting public cloulds. However, enterprises are embracing private clouds within their network boundary
