A Doctors treats, like a mechanic fixes. Patient safety is a component of patient care. Which is holistic and require multidisciplinary team. Once the treating physician is not at the bedside, who is responsible for that patient? Why is a family member attending to the patient's needs. Why is the nursing staff unable to give information, reassurance, comfort? Most errors occur after the medical treatment has been completed. i.e. patient falls trying to get out of bed post-op, because no qualified help is there and family can't handle it; patient is given a wrong medication or dose because the nurse does not check orders or patient is pain because nurse is waiting for Doctor to say so. Patient care and safety need standards of practice and policies. Healthcare in India has become a world class business without the Quality of care or standards of practice needed to ensure patient safety. Yet another example of the country putting the cart in front of the horse and then wondering why its not moving correctly.

I really agree with mandeep here, I mean its the hospitals responsibility to take care of the patient and it is seen that a family member will always be there to help physically and mentally as well, I mean there are many cases where patient will try many things when there is no one to look after them and indeed leads to further complications for that matter. Though India is setting up all the health cities and is touted to be the next the destination for cheap and affordable health care, it is seen that quality provided and the quality of people who are handling patients may be the doctors and the support staff is not that good even in big & top hospitals of the country.

This is one of the major errors troubling the doctors. Only if medical institutions were a little careful, there would be less cases of medical errors that sometimes prove to be fatal for the patients. All they have to do is follow certain global guidelines to ensure that they 'do not harm' the sick. The common types of medication errors include wrong drug error, wrong dose or wrong strength error, wrong route error, wrong time error and wrong dosage form error. It can also happen through errors of commission and errors of omissions. |

Doctors often faces some communication errors by the subordinates in the organisation. The doctor-patient also suffers from these communcation skills where the patient may not be able to express himself about his weakness. This hampers the working structure of the doctors forcing them to provide alternative medicines hampering the health of the patient. |
