To me, the mobile technology to watch out for this year is the Cellular broadband, the performance of high-speed packet access (HSPA) provides a megabit or two of bandwidth in uplink and downlink directions, and often more. In many regions, HSPA provides adequate connectivity to replace Wi-Fi "hot spots" and the availability of mature chipsets enables organizations to purchase laptops with built-in cellular modules that provide superior performance to add-on cards or dongles. |

The upcoming technology that will change the way we use our mobile devices today. I guess mobile operators of india must bring this here. It has a great business potential. Today most of the eletronic payment are done through special device provided by bank. Now if this technology is integrated with mobile phone,it can leverage the exising infrastructure of mobile phone and operators gets their share for providing service. Technology Overview Near Field Communication (NFC) is a new, short-range wireless connectivity technology that evolved from a combination of existing contactless identification and interconnection technologies. Products with built-in NFC will dramatically simplify the way consumer devices interact with one another, helping people speed connections, receive and share information and even make fast and secure payments. Technology in existance: Nokia 6131 phone has this capability. Many european countries are running pilot project on this technology and they have been successful. More Information: eInfochips Ltd is already working on this technology. If you need any additional information on this technology, contact me. The ability to 'read' or 'scan' codes with a mobile phone is now gaining traction outside of Japan. However, as with all technologies, things improve with age... now it's not just about connecting to url's nor just about QR codes. It's easy to see the opportunities for advertising and media and the consumer, but, this needs momentum as people still need to download the free reader to their mobiles - http://www.upcode.com/page/1346211 and until there's enough critical mass (i.e. you see codes in enough places) then this will take time. However, using the more intelligent solutions available for; control, systems and improving efficiencies, track & trace and analytics, to name but a few, will monetize it for business and industry + drive it to consumer more rapidly and extensively too. A little more time spent on researching and truly understanding the pro's and con's of a) what can be done and b) who is the best company to provide this and support you - will be time well spent. According to me Bluetooth 3.0 specification which will be soon released in 2009 which will likely include features such as ultra-low-power mode that will enable new devices, such as peripherals and sensors, and new applications, such as health monitoring. Bluetooth originated as a set of protocols operating over a single wireless bearer technology. Bluetooth 3.0 is intended to support three bearers: classic Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ultrawideband (UWB). So this is one such technology that one should look out for in 2009. In a similar way what are the other mobile technology that will be there to woo the consumers? |

I guess this Display technologies will improve a lot more which includes active pixel displays, passive displays and pico projectors. Pico projectors enable new mobile use cases. Good off-axis viewing enables images and information to be shared more easily. Passive displays in devices, such as e-book readers, offer new ways to distribute and consume documents. These have also become an important differentiator and a user selection criterion. |
