Integrating Agile methods into project management and business analysis is a trend that will continue.Currently, the industry has a wide, varied, and inconsistent use of Agile techniques. This trend is likely to continue as organizations adopt Agile techniques and the industry adopts commonly accepted practices. Agile itself is evolving to the needs of the industry. |

I do agree that Agile is the way forward for PM. My organization has started the initiative already .However there is this old school of thought that keeps rearing its head and put showstoppers on our tracks. Agile according to me is a way of life , an attitude that is very much inherant to your being. It gets mighty difficult to inculcate Agile in PMs and people who are so ingrained in the archaic methodologies and one which has become very much part of their persona.
I strongly believe that if Agile has to become the preferred way of managing projects(and I affirm that its the ONLY approach in this ever changing world) then these old guards has to be dropped and attitude has to change.
Yes I do agree with you Dipen, Infact Agile methods should be people-oriented rather than process-oriented.The goal of engineering methods is to define a process that will work well whoever happens to be using it. Agile methods assert that no process will ever make up the skill of the development team, so the role of a process is to support the development team in their work.

There will be a continued investment in project management in these areas: Companies will link strategic and project management through project portfolio management practices. Project management will include the total project life cycle, from concept through to full realization of project benefits. There will be continued discovery of new application areas for the project management discipline....... It will be interesting to know from you guys on what other trends/investment will help in PM arena.

You stole my words!
In my opinion:
1. Strategic Project Management(SPM) is getting a lot of buy-in and Project/Application Portfolio Management (APM/PPM) will start ensuring the governance, selection, analysis & implementation of the same.So SPM/APM/PPM will move from being buzzwords to reality going forward.
2.Industry's current 'desire' from a PM to have some hands-on around BA & Finance..will become a pre-requisite going forward.Even a merger of BA & PM profile doesn't seem surprising given the trends
3.Adaptive & Agile methodologies along with traditional PM methodologies will see there way through most organizations irrespective of industry or vertical.
4.The Project/Program Management Office(PMO) will gain acceptance as a necessary function in most organizations
5.More organizations would opt for PM Maturity Assessments and leverage the same

The Basic principles of Project Management are
What tasks are to be performed? What follows what(Scheduling)? When to do? What are resources?
What tasks can be grouped together? Grouping of the manpower.
What is the manpower requirement?
How effectively the manpower and the resources with optimum combination be utilized to achieve the project goals?
Establishment of the standards and compare the performance of the project output time to time and take remedial measures to to remove the snags and bottle necks. Project management is an essence of the above activities. |

AGILE approach is much case specific approach pertaining to software projects and is verymuch successful inthat criteria. Most of the Projects are falling in general criteria where agile technic is not much applicable. So Managerial technics provide geral approach to Project planning than any other.

Any project management process has to evolve continuously while being in practice. Thats the only way we can survive. Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle are a part of any of the processes that we speak in terms of Project Management Practices such as Agile, PMP, Prince2. This cycle will continue to be in practice. |
