One of the things about Islam that draws the most criticism is the modesty of Muslim women. Western media and literature have made women believe that their liberation depends upon shedding clothing and foregoing modesty. The male dominated world of media and consent manufacturing has ingrained this belief in women that more skin they expose better are their chances of success. Let’s stop for a minute and think it through. When a woman exposes herself who does it really benefit? Is it not the men who very conveniently fulfill their voyeuristic desires through the exposed women? We try to keep everything of value behind closed doors and under wraps so that no one sees it and gets any ideas. Our cash, jewelry, important documents and everything else that has some value is protected from prying eyes. Yet when it comes to women, men don’t mind letting them display it all for everybody. They have made women a commodity that sells and built multibillion dollar industries like pornography industry that is primarily for the pleasure of men. In contrast, Islam considers women very valuable and worthy of high respect. Women are asked to cover themselves so that they are not bothered by men. “O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their bodies (when abroad) so that they should be known and not molested” (33:59).

The girls should stop using short clothes,heavy make up and jewelery and the free(?) behavior! Although it is against the personal rights, nobody is going to save her before or after the incident, because in most cases the girls are frightened instead of giving her courage by her relatives due to the family status in the society!Also the girls should not stay alone at any time, anywhere! She should take care of herself instead of expecting it from the society because her todays behavior shows that she don't care of the society and only fingers towards the society when she becomes the victim!Thax for referral Kavita and I do agree with you that It is the mental state which makes a person commit such a crime, but this mental state is got prepared due to the motivating acts by the girls and the conditions where the criminal lives!

There might be any number of reasons for criminal activities like rape and murder of women. It may be a failure of the system and the law, and the general moral degradation in the society etc. If bomb blasts are on to be a fact of life, these criminal tendencies also tend to be the norm.
Few months back, in Kerala, a working lady commuting regularly on train was attacked by a one armed beggar, when the compartment became vacant. He threw the woman onto the tracks from the running train, jumped out and molested her on the tracks, and left her to die. The fellow was later nabbed by the police. Mind you, this fellow has been in the criminal list of the police for long and he had finished a jail term prior to the incident. There were heated debates on the TV channels for few days after the tragic incidence. Lots of issues were discussed, mainly the indifference and apathy of India railways, lack of efficient policing, prohibition of begging in the trains etc. Now that things have settled down, all have forgotten about the tragedy.
Had that young lady undergone a bit of physical /martial arts training, she would have dealt with that one armed fellow herself. A simple, but well aimed two pronged finger jab to eyes of the assailant would have rendered him blind for life ( yeah, a martial artist is also trained to have a ruthless mind towards a ruthless attacker). A leading straight groin kick would have perhaps had him lying on the tracks instead of poor young lady.
I feel strongly that women stop looking upon someone or some system for protection. Make yourselves physically fit and strong. Learn to be aggressive and ruthless to the criminal who is out there always in the shadows, lurking for you.

Kaisar, the issue here is that women do NOT want to wear all those sorts of traditional dresses.
They want ALL MEN, ALL OVER THE WORLD to act as one in allowing women to dress as they like whether traditionally or provocatively (to men & lesbians).
It seems that some women don't realize that ALL MEN ARE NOT THE SAME. There are BOTH male and female criminals in the world and they commit many crimes. RAPE is one of the crimes.
We lock the doors of our house at night to protect ourselves and prevent criminals from robbing us while we sleep. There is a system of doors, grills, windows, etc that we humans have designed for the purpose of protection.
So, in much the same way, each of us, MEN & WOMEN, should learn martial arts such as karate, kung fu, etc which are systems to protect ourselves.

This type of modest dress has been worn by righteous women throughout history. Prominent examples are traditional Catholic Nuns, Mother Teresa and the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.

Laxman, at the least, our ladies should have the dexterity to bring out a revolver and shoot. By that time open their purse or handbag and get ready for the kill, it would have been all over. We are dealing with criminals who can safely slide down a fast moving train.

Believe it or not but imbalance in Sex Ratio is the primary cause of Sexual Violence and it is encouraged by poor prosecution in such cases.

Yes, I truly believe that it is doing away with the female infants leading to rise in male sex ratio. And yes, our never ending rape cases is so prevalent that it has become a routine to read them in our daily newspapers followed by the never ending cases pending in courts. Despite these, it is the responsibility of the remaining beauties to dress/ behave in a way that would not arouse sexual desires in men.

This is a fact that today's women are filled with attitude and complexities so they deserve to be treated like that only. Please understand this fact that nowadays they are badly exposing and this gives the youth a wrong message, even in educational institution you are sure to find semi-nude women.

Hey Mr. Pal, Please do not generalise. Certainly no women deserves to be raped. I strongly disagree with this staement. Whatever be the reasons why you wrote this but I personally do not agree with it.

Almost all have digested the western culture.Openness is obvious then.If you dont drink you are called outdated.A new trend has begun during the past couple of years of dressing oneself in a way that pokes or invites any incident - who's mistake and who's at fault.On the contrary we are male dominated society so whatever goes wrong in it we blame women. A woman slaps a man, people say man must have done something and when a man slaps a woman then we say he needs to be punished - its a typical mindset that needs to be changed although overnight may not be possible.After all one cant enjoy both the sides of the same coin all the time.Due to the fear of a handful men women feel scared from coming out from their house.

The procedural dilemma of court or courts discourage the victims or their kin from reporting such cases.It takes a ton for police to prepare the cases and punish the guilty.The lax laws have emboldened the intending rapists to take the risk.

Indians are adopting western culture and the sex is nothing but a satiating desire of the same and it began with mutual understanding, If there is any misunderstanding, conflict, or when secrete is no more secrete then it is termed as a RAPE. Now the age of marriage is about 30 so till that time youngsters has desire to do that and also there are so many contraception's are available in the market.
so idea can't stop this only situation can stop these incidences.

I Think many of us think as like as our surrounding (specially friends (he /She), relatives etc ) think. so may i am not totally right on this one but i saw a friends circle they treat girls ( even there girl friends) as tissue paper and it happens in many places and if they( those type of friend circle) got money , doesn't matter from where either from job/business/crime etc than there inside animal come-out from there mind and they do rapes or other crimes very easily.

I appreciate thoughts expressed by respected seniors and friends on this topic. Yes I accept to some extent mentality is responsible for shameful crimes like rape and molestration.
What i feel is our weak and handicap police force and helpless laws for such crimes are also responsible. As we see there is no such strict law which can really punish criminal for crimes like rape. in outskirts regions of Delhi, Haryana etc one punishment is common they force the guy to marry the victim girl..i do not think this is solution, we all have not seen any rape criminal getting a strict punishment for his crime. Our media which is one of the most alert and independent media of world also not cover the whole story in rape cases. They do show the news of such case but they do no cover it till the court sentence for convict.
Our judiciary system is also like old man where cases take years to complete and convicts walk out freely with reason that they already spent the punishment period in jails.
I think to curb the rape cases police should be given more power, it must be included in study syllabus of colleges and senior secondary schools as a social problem.
Women rights and human rights organizations NGOs should act more activly in such cases. Victims should be supported financially, and emotionaly to make them live new life. I think there should be proper plan to support victims in every possible way to every limit..
We need to change the society and be a change yourself to change whole society...

In earlier days be it city or village bred people, they used to olead simple lives within their circle. But nowadays the complete materialisation has emancipated the humble indian soul. While money, movies and foreign travel have liberated the city folks souls into sex crazy souls, the village folks have more disposable income and employment in BPO's to be blamed. With money comes power, craze and loose morality. Making it a heady cocktail whiich goades you to commit such crimes. Media too has a great role in this what with foreign channels opening up due to the Sattelite receiver revolution. Even kids can access porn and other such stuff. Recently in TN a money changer was arrested on a girls complaint that he forced her to watch porn on his office computer when she had come to his shop to receive some money sent from abroad. Later on he started calling her in the night to have sex. Imagine a sex craved maniac in the guise of a money changer ! Today women arent safe anywhere not even in the confines of their homes ! This is the sad reality !

Dear Ms Kavitha Sankar, I have to thank you for this opportunity to share my ideas. Somebody had written here that forget the reasons. But unless we find out the root-cause of the problem, how can we solve this? Major reason is lack of love from parents, which have created these criminal children. Pocket money to a teen age boy from both parents who went out for job and wont care their child, make him spend lavishly for their friends to gain importance and try to make pseudo-adventures. He with friends, start teasing girls in colleges and move another step. Some VIPs in the metro cities have good sons while little number of VIPs have worst sons. With father's money and power, the youth have decided to make wrong moves with a team of useless boys, lifting poor girls and seduce them. Many wont report. Middle class families are among them. Those known people wont cross them and guide good things. Effect? These happenings... Police will bend before power and money. This is the result of non-stop metro crimes. Solution? Police should announce publicly that this minister's or officer's son is the criminal. If possible sent photos to all newspapers. They may get socially affected. This will affect their next election. People arrested under rape cases should be punished for more than 50 years imprisonment. Then the crime rate can reduce or eliminate. |

I would blame all channels and film industry who are showing almost half naked girls which brings about sexual excitement in males specially young generation. Besides, the environment of colleges and universities where sex talks have become daily affairs between two friends belonging to opposite sexes. Sex talk is not bad as long as it is constraint to informative and educative purpose and not for any sexual excitement or sexual activity purpose.

A rape in many of the cases is not a rape whereas on the otherhand most of the rapes go unreported due to poor addressal of the issue. A female skimpily dressed seeks pleasure through the pairs of male eyes and not genitalia but male brain sends signals to produce hormones for physical pleasure and not just visual.
On the other hand the actual rape is where trust of an unsuspecting person is broken be it of a minor child at the hands of her patrons or a physically challenged individual and other such victims.
The rape cases are equally a psychiatric issue if not more than a legal.
