Yes Body language is perhaps the most important trait required to make a career in media industry because they need to interact with a lot of people and in so many different situations and if their body language can help their words then only they will be able to make a mark in this industry.People who are watching them expects them to be as real as they can be and suitable body language can really help their cause.

The skills requires of a good media person are obvious. Your command over language, your knowledge of the field u r covering, your presentability including your body language, your keen sense of analytical ability and provess to think on your legs in at times stressful situations. U need to connect directly to audience. Your physical ability and agility is also a factor as media don't keep business hours!

Know PEOPLE in the right places!

idea posted by Makrand Bhave AGM - Corporate Business, E18, part of Network 18 Group

Depending on the area of your coverage, I would say networking with people in the right areas of your responsibility would be the 'KEY' to get you on track and in the fast lane of your media career. No ego OR alter ego can dominate a person who is hell bent on media as a career. It is a job that requires cunning, knowing people in the right places and of course getting the 'NEWS' first!

People are the KEY to a fast track in media!

Excellent Communication skills.

idea posted by Anil Kumar Singh Senior Consultant, GKC

Media is all about communication - verbal or written. Therefore, this would be the first thing required to enter into media industry. The better the communication, the greater the impact would be. It is all about how to play with words to create interest amongst viewers.

I support the idea. As Media is a part of Communication.

Communication has taken a major shape in recent years. In my visits and discussion with professors at Mudra Institute of Communication Research, it was very visible that now the word marketing will lose its charm. The new word or a designation coming up is IMC (Intergrated Marketing Communication). As communication has diluted the word marketing.

And communication includes all key factors to get a career in media i.e. Body language, postures, attitude, Team work, knowledge, understanding, analysis, future prediction, etc. As all these are part of communication, with these actions you are communicating with the other person.

I strongly support the idea of communication, if you are a effective communicator, you are winner.

I would like to add that communication skill is the first and foremost requirement for the job in Media. Just imagine a person who is not able to put his ideas across people in a correct way, it might put his life at stake. People in media talk about politicians, professionals, stars and even terrorists, and these are places where you cannot afford to make mistakes. And at the same time you need to be confident while speaking to them which would come only when you have a good command over language.

Adaptable to any situation

The most important trait one needs to have to make it in the profession of media is adaptability. One needs to learn to adapt to different situations and different places as they will come across them day-in day-out.

This is a very important trait for media industry, let it be journalism, TV, Radio, anything. Whatever done here has an impact on countries image. Professional attitude is a prerequisite because it also deals with sensitive issues like peoples image, their personal and public life, government, etc.

I do agree to you that apart from professionalism you definitely need to be creative. It is a very dynamic field very different from any other 9 to 5 job, it which requires you to be very active, energetic and passionate. It is a very demanding job.

Well, media is a sort of different kind of industry. Being a Chartered Accountant and also in the tv n print media I can feel the difference. Apart from hard core professionalism, you need to have a creative bent of mind and passionate about it. Simply because it is deadline oriented industry and at the same time contimuously innovative and transforming industry. In management or finance or manufacuring or service, the attitude is different. There are no organzied office hours. Every moment something interesting is happening the world and u will have to comepete not only with your rival but your own capability. In media, quite often a person is exposed indivisualistic fashion unlike the corporate world,  that follows collective leadership. Here, if u r creating a program or covering an event, suddenly u realize that u r out in the open and alone. It that sense, it is more challenging and more satisfying assignmnet.

Team Work

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

No media reporting can be done individually. It involves a series of processes which begins from getting the news, recording, formatting and presentating. Thus a team worker would be more successful in the media industry.

Confidence..!!

What I feel is with all the above mentioned traits, a person associted with media industry should be confident because this will create a greater impact on audience. Confidence will come from the honest effort and proper knowledge before reporting anything in avague manner.
