This will play a strategic role in IT industry where IT will be pressured to play a role in reducing carbon emissions. As regulations are multiplying and have the potential to seriously constrain companies in building data centers, as the impact on power grids, carbon emissions from increased use and other environmental impacts are under tight scrutiny. One can see where IBM is coming up with it's ads like how it is going green and this will be a sort of trend that will happen for the future.

I too support this concept of Green IT as it is a first hand, immediate and effective. Other options as cloud computing and virtualization 2.0 are far reaching as a country like India where computers have not penetrated yet. This is a revolutionary concept which has been undertaken by IBM. Go Green !

Cloud computing is a technology that uses the internet and central remote servers to maintain data and applications. Cloud computing allows consumers and businesses to use applications without installation and access their personal files at any computer with internet access. This technology allows for much more efficient computing by centralizing storage, memory, processing and bandwidth.
'If you only need milk , would you buy a cow ?' All the users or consumers need is to get the benefits of using the software or hardware of the computer like sending emails etc. Just to get this benefit (milk) why should a consumer buy a (cow) software /hardware ?

according to me this will also be very important in the IT strategy with virtualization that is happening, with advances in virtualization technologies will continue in future also, Virtualization technologies can improve IT resource utilization and increase the flexibility needed to adapt to changing requirements and workloads. Virtualization technologies are enablers that help encourage broader improvements in infrastructure cost reduction, flexibility and resiliency.

This is also very important, Metadata management is a critical part of an enterprises information infrastructure. It enables optimization, abstraction and semantic reconciliation of metadata to support reuse, consistency, integrity and share ability. So organizations implementing both customer data integration and product or service information management will link these master data management initiatives as part of an overall enterprise information management strategy.

The work of Mark Weiser and other researchers at Xerox's PARC paints a picture of the coming third wave of computing where computers are invisibly embedded into the world. As computers proliferate and as everyday objects are given the ability to communicate with RFID tags and their successors, networks will approach and surpass the scale that can be managed in traditional centralized ways. This leads to the important trend of imbuing computing systems into operational technology, whether done as calming technology or explicitly managed and integrated with IT. In addition, it gives us important guidance on what to expect with proliferating personal devices, the effect of consumerization on IT decisions, and the necessary capabilities that will be driven by the pressure of rapid inflation in the number of computers for each person.
