In the Technical world, nobody hates the people in IT - it's the system that's broken. IT's bureaucratic processes rival the tax code in complexity. When challenged, IT justifies red tape as necessary because the business makes half-baked requests and is clueless about enterprise impact. So I would like to know from you all, what things you think, executives hate about IT?

Promise of technology beyond reach

idea posted by Priyanka Dixit HR Executive, Leading IT services

Many a times when we try to brainstorm with IT about new technologies you could use to innovate - like 2.0 tools, for instance - they patronize us by dismissing our questions and noting that your people aren't properly using the systems already in place. No matter how much we spend or how hard we work, the promise of technology seems perpetually beyond our reach.

Management don't mind if technology is making them profit. But for them it is important to understand all its aspect so that they could back it up.

Actually, it's not beyond reach; rather it is not welcomed with open arms at all.

People from Management side believe that Management is an art and People from IT fields usually think that IT is science.

IT has provided many a features that managers are using, even without knowing that it is a by-product of IT - for example,Hand-Held Devices, Mobiles, 8-Bits chips in car & remote, etc. They take IT as of something related with and only with Computer-Terminal. Things are pretty different. Well, this is perception based acceptance.

Now, for the second part of expression that they got somehow looked down upon by IT sleuths for their ignorance about the array of capabilities already available through IT - It is because, after having good exposure of IT as User, they tend to believe that they have matured enough to suggest what should have been done. But, they - most of the time - demand for the things that are already present in one version or the other. This is because they don't believe in experimenting. Whatever minimum functionalities are sufficient to their needs are enough to be known for them. They, usually, don't try to go beyond. Whereas, IT guys are ready to explore even unimaginative  ideas to make them true. For example, people are working on the project that whenever Advertisements regarding Foods are to come on TV, Viewers can smell their aroma. Well, this can be done by Science-stream personnel only. Managers would come into picture only when they would find that this 'Idea' worth 'stakes'. Then, suggestion(s) would pour in tons to realize other things as well - for example, they would demand for scent or perfumery should also be felt that way, maybe.

Hence, I would like to conclude with the fact that yes, For Managers - Promise of technology are beyond reach - for the obvious reason of

1) Non-acceptance of newer things

2) Going beyond 'Scope'.

Whereas these are prerequisite for exploring technology.

Hence, when they ask for anything 'New' from their side they find that their IT counterparts are showing their 'Ignorance' and felt or at least expresses that they are least concerned and thereby they have not acquainted with that or those.

Basic attitude of Management is "I do not understand the work that you do so at the end of the day, I can not evaluate your output". The promise of technology beyond reach is what the management views of the IT goals and statements. Without proper support IT flounders.

A Statement keeps on coming that IT has a growth rate for individuals

idea posted by Hari Shankar MBA/PGDM student, International School Of Business And Research

When people say that a carrier in IT will definitely result in a high growth income as well as post wise. But one thing we should keep in mind is that IT is the first and only sector which cuts down job suddenly without much prior notice when ever our nation faces some economic crisis such as Recession etc. So some of t5he opt for Govt. Job rather an IT one. As people today go for income + Job Security.

Realization that IT doesn't replace good strategy and tactics

idea posted by Martynas Sklizmantas Systems engineer, eBuddy

From my experience usually shock comes, when executives realize that IT is just a tool, not a goal and that still you have to work, train people, sell products and continuously innovate your company even if you have best of the best IT department.

Also IT is very complex - people in general hate complex things.

I totally agree. Playing the role of the IT manager, i have to deal with this everyday. Worse still to see how people react when the realization dawns on them that IT cannot solve their problems, merely provide them with a tool to deal with it better.

Mis-match of expectation

idea posted by Tao Wing Hong Freelancer, Freelancer

From time to time, executive get upset because what IT gave to the organization is not what they expected.  This can be caused by un-managed customer expectation, mis-understandig on what IT can bring to them; or current IT cannot meet what they expected

Nobody hates the people in IT

idea posted by Prinshu Gupta Diploma in software engineering with Fresher

You may think that hate is too strong a word for feelings toward a corporate department. I don't. It's not personal — nobody hates the people in IT — it's the system that's broken. And here's the rub: IT doesn't like it either. So in the spirit of confronting brutal facts honestly so that we can chart a new path, here's my take on what we all hate about IT.

The open nature of IT impinges upon the Executives 's psyche of self indulgence. He feels and he rightly feels that decisions are now data based rather than situation based. He therefore hates IT fomentation.

Nobody is against IT. Only three things we must ensure IT effects should be evaluated, execution should be proper and most importantly for whom we are making. It should be user friendly.....
