Improving living conditions

idea posted by Asmita Rai Journalist, GBN

When the Nehru-Gandhi family won a thumping majority in 1971 elections, they won it with a promise to eliminate poverty from India. That was 40 years ago.

Things have actually gotten much worse for those who don’t make enough money and things have actually gotten much better for those who make more than their 7 generations would ever need. e.g. Food rations, although available on paper, are not accessible to those who badly need them, and people who need them can now hardly afford the prices in the open market.

Nobody is willing to eliminate poverty from India. If they do that then on which thing they will beg the votes by promising such type.

I support u Asmita, Many state governments could not even reach hygienic living conditions for the people like even toilets. Many of our people does not know how to live hygienically. village level education through government agencies are a required in this areas. We have many areas to be discussed in this subject.

Corruption.....

idea posted by SUDIPTA SINHA CA FINAL STUDENT

Corruption in Indian is one of the biggest challenges for the Indian Government. It has now become very much normal in the political, bureaucracy and other various fields. So many Acts have been passed in this regard. But the solution is nothing. Until and unless the mentality of the people are changed it will remain a challange to the Government.

Regionalism

idea posted by Srinivas suravajhala Secretary to the high ranking police officer, Law Enforcing Agency

Of late, Regionalism is gaining ground in India. This regionalism is going to pose threat to the national integration.  Water disputes, state border disputes between the states are becoming daily routine.  Lack of strong leadership at the centre, not in a position to find a solution to these ever growing problems.

The challenges in no particular order

idea posted by B V Krishnamurthy Chief Academic Advisor and Distinguished Professor, RIMS

1. Unscrupulous politicians (can we have some minimum qualifications for entering the legislatures or parliament?)

2. Inefficient bureaucrats - between them, the political class and the bureaucrats have brought the nation to its present state. How about doing away with the all India services exams for a start and let professionals be in charge of departments for a decade?

3. Rampant corruption - can we take a pledge that we will neither take nor give a bribe - come what may?

4. Lack of a national identity - fissiparious tendencies are tearing the nation apart. How about reorganizing states by simply drawing horizontal and vertical lines and do away with language as the basis for states. When do we call ourselves Indians first and everything else last?

5. Absence of food security. 300 million tonnes of food grains face the prospect of rotting or being consumed by rodents and insects. Who is accountable?

6. Too much focus on trivia: switch to any channel, read any newspaper - you cannot find one story that can inspire you. When will we start thinking positive?

7. Innovation - even the successful sectors fall woefully short on innovation. Societies and nations that can innovate alone will succeed. Do we really want to become an economic superpower?

8. Bludgeoning population - enough is enough. How about penalizing those who produce more than two children?

9. Neglected rural poor - 2/3rds of our population live in villages. Most of them live on less than $2 per day. When will we have inclusive growth?

10. The biggest challenge - meeting 1 to 9 successfully.

Suffering (pain) of an "Aam Aadmi"

idea posted by Hetan Ashar Sr. Manager, IL&FS Financial Services

Right from the stage of getting a birth certificate to the death certificate there are number of other interactions on a daily basis of an Aam Aadmi with the Goverment or its various agencies - the long drawn and complicated processes, administrative delays, lack of information, attitude of "Babus", which fears and sets an impression of the Government and its functioning in the mind of an "Aam Aadmi" and needs a tremendous upliftment. How an "Aam Aadmi" percives and imagines Goverment's attitude & functioning is through these few interactions, which eventually is percived as a systemic failure. I beleive improvement in these interactions is the first step towards demonstrating that the Government cares for its people and is the most challenging task that the Goverment may face to bring about a change

The above is one of the examples in the overall sufferring that an Aam Aadmi experiences throughout one's life.

Change the way of teaching and our education system. And Increase the education.

idea posted by Mayank pundir Software Developer, Tatva Infosolutions [P] Ltd.

In our education system there are lots of problem by which our county face may problem. All problem related to our country are based on lack of education.

Firstly, we study but who teach us dont teach us if you study urself then u can get otherwise you cant. Our teaching system does not teach that type of persons who are weak and average. That's y they remain unemployed etc.

Secondly, our way of taking admission is not good. They use reservation in entrance exam. Its means they provide reservation to our mind. suppose u want to be an engineer and give entrance exam and u have no reservation and you got some ranks and other person have more rank to u. But that other person have reservation then he has more mind then u and get good college then u. If our gov want to give reservation then give but not in entrance exam, give reservation his fee and any other financial things not in minded things. Because of these process that minded person get not good education in good colleges. and He remain.......

Third, In our colleges they dont teach very good they dont provide practical knowledge and dont appreciate  his thinking like Lobo in '3idiot movie'. They make an engineer but not good engineer. engineer is like a scientist. but they work like a labor after colleges. All engineer dont work on find new technologies and new thing. Now a day the work which is done bye an engineer can do any graduate person after 3 or 4 months training which is provide to the engineer before starting the job.

An engineer can give the exam of Bank PO. Engineer got 70 to 80 % marks and they have all technical knowledge but they give PO exam and obviously they pass. and get a job in bank. by which they grab the two positions. One of his own and another is of bank's job of graduation person. Thus one positon and one person remain unemployed.

This is also a challenge of our government.

In the coalition politics, there is no "give and take" approach. Regional imbalances derail positive steps suggested for national development. Every party works on its own ideologies and the so called common minimum programme does not augur well and the central politics have no control over or grasp on anything, but to succumb to the pressure!

What India lacks is good and efficient governance. When ever there is a problem the ruling and opposition only blame each other. They should stop this game and start ruling the country effectively. What all the Indian political parties lack is POLITICAL WILL TO RULE THE COUNTRY.

idea posted by S. Muralidharan Head, Project Planning/Strategy, Knowledge Foundation
Even after 63 years of independence, we have not addressed the basic needs of a common man - Food, Cloth and Shelter. Average per capita income of major percentage of our citizen is less than Rs.20 per day. Let the Government address these three things first, and later on address Education, health and safety needs. If they are addressed properly, then our people would realise their own potential to take the country to a newer heights. Rest of the things would be addressed by the responsible citizens, for which the Government should become an enabler. If the Government persuades the Swiss and German Government to bring back the money stashed in the banks of these countries, then for another 30 years, our economic problems would be solved.

Improving infrastructure

idea posted by Deepak Kubal Media Coresspondent, Media House

India has one of the most poorly developed infrastructure and facilities on the planet, and that is because none of the governments have ever taken it upon themselves to dedicate their time to this noble deed. India does not have a single world class highway, period. Even the most developed of Indian cities have electrical power issues and sections of these cities are shut down every day, cities like Mumbai have severe water issues and transportation is a mess.

Endless...

idea posted by Vishwas -, --

1) Discouraging vote banking, by creating differences and categories among the people on the basis of caste, religion, region etc . Tweaking the current social structure, ensuring communication among regions, religions and castes ( eg. by initiating inter-religion/caste marriages and relations ), and creating business oppurtunities among people from different regions.

2) Right to freedom of expression, speech in a true manner. No importance of such freedom, unless one feels secure and has reliability in police and judicial system.

3) Preventing the use of public properties institutes, roads, streets, parks etc to campaign political leaders and thus wasting public money for personal gains. Nomenclature of these public bodies including towns and cities, should be freed from political clutches.

4) Improving the education infrastructure through internet, and making it free of cost. Regulations, laws that help the youths tofight back, when they are fooled in the name of education, through public/private sector institutes, schools, colleges and universities. It's a shame to find statements in job-mails, where companies clearly declare students of particular national university inelgible for their interviews/jobs

5) Control over the activities of  private sectors that acts irresponsibly wildly in the field of education, employment, banking services, media etc, with the sole aim of collecting and looting more and more money.Awareness about consumer rights among people, and compensating the victims heavily that may set some example to prevent the fooling job.

6) Initiating/Assisting in ventures that encourages community efforts in fields like IT. International opensource s/w markets are example of such initiatives.

7) Use of internet, computer and mobile tech, in government services in a better way, and making it more reliable, transparent and easily accessible

8) Increasing accessibility of employment business and growth oppurtunities to all the states and towns equally.

9) Sovling traffic and road problems. Preventing mafiaism in public transport system, parking areas. And equal distribution of such areas in the common public.

10) Making the laws as equal as possible. Not different as per individual's group, (religion, caste, sex), fame or money. Accountability towords laws that make provisions of giving away resources freely to a particular group of people on the basis of their backwardness.

Some of the challenges faced by any Government of any time

idea posted by Jayaprakash N Solution Architect, Diya Systems Pvt. Ltd, Mangalore

Some of the challenges faced by any Government of any time

Challenge 1 : When political parties  asks votes based on religions and win into Assemblies and  Parliament, its difficult for them to take bold steps towards real challenges for real development.  So asking votes by leaders and casting votes by voters should be based on the real development work they have done their own constituencies than based on religions, etc.

Challenge 2  :  When the political parties  mainly supported (Financially) by business world,  its difficult for any party or the leaders of that party  to take bold steps against the real challenges the face for real development .  And its really very difficult for any political party to financially dissociate themselves with  business world. We need to find a mechanism to boost political parties to act freely (towards all levels of people in the society) and non-biased way against the challenges they face,  even when they have to  get financial support  from  business world.

Challenge 3 :  There are lot of external  ‘powers’  like Terrorism, etc, etc which trying to disintegrate India suppress the real development of India. We really fail to stop, the root cause of these kind of problems.

Challenge 4 : We need to create more Visionary leaders who can really work on their vision than simply talk their vision.

Corruption

idea posted by Akshata MBA/PGDM student, SMU

The main evil in the government system is the corruption. It has to be uprooted completely. People who talk about removal of corruption are themselves involved in it. The people who raise their voice are suppressed. It is not impossible to remove it, just fight against it.... you never know your standing against corruption may inspire many other people....
