Business promotion is to running a successful business as practicing scales is to playing the piano well; it may not be a thrilling activity in itself, but you just have to do it! You should spend at least an hour a day on business promotion or planning how to promote your business (and more is better, if you can fit the time in)!

Writing a press release is the best way to generate some free publicity. Basically most journalists do not have much time to write stories, so if you can provide them with easily written text it becomes quite easy for them to publish it. But be careful don’t presume that your story will be interesting. The fact that you sell a product is not very interesting. Interesting stories are more likely to be human interest, or about a new business opening. Look inside a publication to see what sorts of stories that they publish and write your press release like one of these.

I am in total agreement with Sheetal on the subject. Yes there may be many ways but a press realese is the best and cost effective way to introduce some thing new. The cost involves high Tea & some samples and the reporter will ensure your realese comes at a prominent place the next day or day after. This we used to do for our shirt brand louis phelleppe and it was very sucessful.

Have a clear business plan defined and stick to it.

Use your contacts if you have any and start collecting referals. Use the referals unashamedly in the early stages because marketing campaigns can prove mighty expensive to a start-up. So you must not fight shy of using every satisfied client to promote your image and get more clients. Int he early stages, particularly if you are in service industry, it may even pay to have a clause in your contract that your client haas no problem with reasonably acting as a referal for you. Of course your profit margin will drop for each favour received, but that balancing act will cost you much less than an out and out marketing campaign.

May be what I say is very conservative but it is definitely practical till you have some money in the coffers!!!!

I am also convinced from personal experience that nothing speaks louder than a satisfied and content customer!!!

SEO also adds value to it, other than market them on social media sites like Facbook, Twitter, and so on...

The above expensive ways to promote your business is no doubt a healthy & risky investment.

Promoting a biz which is inexpensive & a fruitful investment is oustanding customer service which is universally accepted & practised source of promoting a biz.

Business is by the customer so it should be for the customer & of the customer like our Democracy. Customer service is a tool which not allows you to spend even a single penny to promote, It automatically promotes your biz as you provide service which is your USP & also different what others don't provide as per customer satisfaction level.

How great or interesting your product is in which you are dealing is not an issue. The issue deals with how you are keeping your customer which is your business.
