Modulate Your Voice

idea posted by Dayanand Deshpande Senior Consultant, Ernst & Young

Cell phones have sensitive microphones that can pick up a very soft voice while blocking out ambient noise. Yelling into a cell phone is not necessary. When people are nearby, be considerate and keep your voice low, your tone unemotional and even, and your conversation private. Arguing or airing dirty laundry in public is very poor cell phone etiquette.

Yes I fully agree and support you. But who will listen to you. The other day one fellow was yelling in a local train and he was virtually shouting on mobile phone. Every one is not only disturbed by his yelling but were also distracted. Not a single person told him to speak in a low tone. Ultimately, I showed signs to talk in a low tone, which he did not appreciate. He showed me a very bad face to me. By that time, I had to get down at Dadar and I was relieved really from that very boring scene. This is not one day affair. I am witnessing almost daily some where or the other mostly in trains.

I agree to this one and would like to add one more thing , that people should also keep their cell phones in silent or low sound modes.

Dayanand , you are correct. You should speak softly & politely in the public place & should not crate nuisance to other.

Introduce yourself and request for exact time for the call

We should introduce ourselves and set a time for the call,

Depending on the availability & comfort of the receiver, we should plan our speech :))

That helps !!!

We should request exact time for making and receiving call, specially senior management of the company requires this. There are lots of meetings held in the company, talking in the cellphone might disturb all the environment.

Add your argument:

Observe the 10-foot Proximity Rule.

idea posted by Gargi Sinha Senior Consultant, Hewitt Associates

Maintain a distance of at least 10-feet (3 meters) from the nearest person when talking on a cell phone. No matter how quietly you speak, if standing too close to others they are forced to overhear your personal business.

It is a wonderful concept but we need a right plan to follow it. Just an idea wont help.
