I’ve been out on the speaking circuit a lot this spring. Guess what I’ve been talking about. Yep, social media.

There’s a lot of malarkey out there. A lot of people who proclaim themselves experts because they made a cool logo and had some business cards printed up. It’s embarrassing. Don’t fall victim to it.

So, I want to ask you all, what are the top things every HR Practitioner Should Know About Social Media?

Be sure of the authenticity of the person you are talking to. There can be many fake profiles in it. Also, till he becomes a part of the conversation, don't say everything at once.

It's very true that a person really needs to mindful of who they are talking to and what they say. A professional needs to know how to more effectively use social media. They should learn how to integrate social media into the work culture. HR professionals should learn how to use them to recruit professionals. Read blogs, news feeds, RSS feeds etc… Join networks based on their profession. Utilize social media to interact with employees and/ or customers more. There are other great ways that HR can participate on the social web, it just all boils down to strategic thinking and strategic planning.

Social networking accounts for most of the time spent online. People of all ages have access to the social networking sites

Every HR practitioner should be aware that Blogs, podcasts, microblogging are means through which a person's character, his/her interests are revealed.

This would help in research for an HR looking out for background and interest checks of selected or shortlisted candidates.

Srini

No doubt social media is a great tool for expressing & contributing your ideas for HR's perspective all the skills like communication, analytical & psychological aptitude of an individual can be traced out in the bogs..., all left for an interviewer is to examine other factors & credentials.
