What are the vital reforms required in Indian educational sector?)

idea posted by pavan dubey Training Manager, UNICEF

I think indian education system should be designed to accomodate regional, cultural and ethnical diversity with technical as well as conventional knowledge. It should provide common field to compete irrespective of rural or urban or metropolitan students. To meet above goals, quality education institutions need to be made accessible to children of countrymen, rather than making island of education to serve "elite class" of indian society at the cost of marginal common "hindustani".

Our Education System should implement Open Book System, it doesn't mean copy from book, but it push students to think and develop answers in their way, this way at early stages they can think far better things and can implement also, bur sorry to say our education system don't know where and how to start teaching open book system, this is we and we talk more but we even think to develop and never try to overcome, but there are some exceptions. Regarding course, it should update after every 3 years.

I feel it is not vilalge or urban that matters. What matters, whether a student has learnt the subject or not. So the tests conducted for allowing the students to get into IIT like institutions has to test only this. One relaxation can be given .. that is ... the student can write / attend interview in his/her the medium through he/she learnt the subjects. For these people, after their joining in IIT or NIT, some language development program has to be conducted, so that , the vilalge students will become on par with city students.

The present Higher education into IITs and NITs are benefitting thru entrance exams which filter out rural, poor and girl students. If the board exams cannot evaluate and rank the students on their competence then they should be scrapped and only entrance exams should exist. It is clear there is a need to remove this biased selection process which favours Urban, male and elite students. This reflects clearly in admisssions to these institutions. In plus 2 exam 80% girls pass out with about 60% pass out by boys but in IITs and NITs it is 80% boys and 20% girls. In most of these institutions the hostel ratios between boys and girls is 80:20 How this BIAS is achieved by IITs and NITs? Visit any NIT website and  you will be shocked to see the number boys hostels vs girls hostels.

The necessary infrastructure and scholarships to encourage rural, poor and girl students is inadequate. In some NITs girls are packed in rooms and common rooms (15-20 per room)

Rationalisation of legislation

idea posted by Aarti Gupta Legal Consultant

I think that the legislation relating to universities and the rules and regulations under them have remained substantially unchanged for the past 100 years. They should be simplified and rationalised for improving performance, efficiency and ensuring accountability.

Free the education to private entrepreneurs. The present Trusts and Societies whose purpose exist only on paper and most of them are profit making bodies for private individuals. Big black money generating business for most of these people with high political contacts.

Why not change laws to reflect the reality - let them make profits overboard - and why hide behind high moral grounds of societies and Trusts. Time to liberalise and let large corporates support education in a big way.

More practical applications should be done

idea posted by Prasad Rajadhyaksha Assistant Professor, BIT

I think more stress should be given to practical applications of the subjects and case studies rather than only theory based subjects. In India, it is a very bad thing of students spending their whole time in mugging up their curriculum because of which they learn less and "just read" more to get marks.

I am very much for the practical approach rather than Academics! little minds need to THINK LOGIC- Question things around them rather than just memorizing them. This is the time to let them show their creativity and not curbing them behind books. If Kapil Sibal is for one board around the nation, its great. However, what falls under That BOARD is important.

employability for which Dr.Manmohan singh thrives for is a vital point for todays youth. Neither IITs Nor Universities understands this. 80% of the children drop out because the parents (customers) does not believe that the education will help their ward in his/her applied life.

EDUCATION THROUGH ENTERTAINMENT

idea posted by pruthviraja pande Film maker, Fascinations communications

Dear Reader, the teaching methodology should change, there should be more competent, skillful, honest teaching staff who are truly committed and concerned about the future of the children, most importantly, at least some of the educated ministers in the ruling government should think of providing good and free education with good school building, infrastructure, willful staff to teach, gain confidence of the children and please also entertain them while educating, might be it is difficult, but if you are serious, contact me, i have a PPT presentation for better education methodology

It is a major challenge for most educators to lure the students away from the explosion of entertainment all around and bringing more entertainment to education is like adding fuel to fire. Education was known as SHIKSHA and like any medicine it is never sweet while swollowing.

Educational entity should not be merged with legislation

idea posted by pruthviraja pande Film maker, Fascinations communications

it is quite unfortunate in our country that the education is totally neglected and there are no R & D done in this aspect.  all the past legislatures, ruling governments have not focused much due to which the today's education is oscillating.  unless there would be some major reforms in curriculum, syllabus, identity for brilliance irrespective or reservations and capitation, god should save us, we are running just by the mercy of god!!

Collegiate autonomy

In my opinion all those colleges with a track record of competence should be given the autonomy to prescribe their own curriculum, conduct examinations, and award degrees.

The Education system should be unified

idea posted by Surendhar Mechanical Engineer-HVAC, MJ Associates

My point is that all indian schools should have same syallabus. Where ever U go in india the syallabus should be the same. It may be a village or a metro city. The fact we must accept that there is diversity in the education system. For example CBSC, ISCE, state board, Anglo indian, Matriculation, etc.,. The People in both rural areas aswell as urban areas should have the same Quality of education.

HRD Minister & the Educational Governance is Ideotic?

idea posted by pruthviraja pande Film maker, Fascinations communications

Both the ruling governance and the HRD Ministers are Idiots, the Government Schools especially in Rural Sector does not have basic amenities like drinking water, toilets, a moderate building to call it as school, our poor children does not have basic benches or chairs to sit, the poor teachers does not get their salary in time, there are no value added training or motivation to the school teachers, many times books prescribed does not reach students in time, teachers salary and perks are negligible? but HRD minister and the Educational governance wants to build castle in air? what would you call them?let them not think ahead to fool people again and again, first let them set right the base or foundation and later talk about reformation, legislation, syllabus etc.,??

Institutional autonomy

Most universities are being controlled in some form or other through government nominees. They must be given total autonomy and freedom from government interference.

Curriculum should be modified

idea posted by Neeti M. Thakker Legal Research, Mindcrest India Pvt. Ltd.

Each Undergraduate and Graduate program is solely theory based. The subjects are completly outdated and meet no challenges in the international environment. There is a vast advancement in every educational field and no subject in the relevant curriculum's imparting or covering that knowledge. The proportion between the ever growing knowledge and program curriculum's is dismissal. No practical application in the curriculum makes students unable to cope with job pressures and the increasing efficiency needs. The cuccirculum should be modified to include relevant subjects inculcating knowledge at par with world standards..

This is true only in government controlled universities and school boards. In higher education these university and their affiliated colleges are losing out to deemed and autonomous universities. May be UGC and AICTE should rank institutions on the current and relevant curriculum rather than on "infrastructure"

Bring Competition to State Boards

idea posted by Prasad PN Zonal Sales Manager

We should learn from Tamil Nadu transport which has been split to compete among themselves and resulted in best service. State boards should be free to compete in other states and why not if students get the choice to choose the best board

A steady well structured insight building will help

idea posted by Smita Kshirsagar Head/VP/GM-Corporate Planning/Strategy, Paranjape Schemes(Constructions)Pvt. Ltd.

Being in the field of education for more than 20 years,I have experienced that the teachers themselves lack proper insight on the real meaning of education. Thanks to the typical training they receive in the professional course they undertake.Given proper exposure to soft skills building, professional attitude and creating a vision, these young aspirants can bring about a world of positive and productive difference to the Indian educational sector. It is firstly the teacher or the 'Education Facilitator' who must realize what the true essence of education is only then can it seep down to every related level of the system.

Centralized Education System

idea posted by Sudhir Verma Senior Assistant (Archive-Legal), Jaiprakash Associates Limited

I think first our education system should be centralized whether the problem will create due to assortment in our culture, regions, etc. For this we can some added rules for the advanced regions if required. Second, admission to the higher education should be based on central entrance exam system.

our system should take accomodate unreached segments of the society

idea posted by Priya Varadan Independent consultant, Self employed

right now, we have an one size system, It is expected that those who want to be part this system  must  fit in to this 'one size'. those who can't must go to a special schools or opt for non formal education. why is it so rigid? we are fine with the idea of a diverse workforce (post globalisation) but a diverse classroom is not ok.

User involvement

idea posted by K LAXMINARAYANA RAO Freelancer

Involvement of user, (Parents in early education-Primary &nsecondary; Industry in the case of Higher education; NGOs in the case of Humanities, Social science etc) will go a long way in Imparting education and training. Remuneration and other facilities provided to teachers should be on par with what industry provides in order to attract best of talents in Education sector, Educators should be paid more than civil servants. After all they are the ones who prepare the future citizens and as such their role is more important than a civil servant. Educational Institutions should have autonomy. Government funding should be to the extent of creating initial infrastructure. Government funding should be to the extent of 100% up to Secondary education and then onwards, Government instead of funding Institutions should provided scholarships to the needy based on merits and income level. scholarship should include tution, living expenses and books and other education materials. System of awarding doctorates should be limited to people who have acheived in the sectors of Industry, Medicine, education, arts and literature and not for social workers or politicians. Let society and or the government honour these people.

No we do not need change first. We need the implementation of laws first. Once they are implemented properly then we can think of change. How will change be helpful if pre-existing laws are also not implemented?
