Many times better engagement with employees and/ or co-workers is the key. There are many things can be said and done. It all depends on the strategy and plan that a company uses. At the same time employees opinions and concerns should be taken into consideration. An HR department should be able to develop a better work-life atmosphere for employees. Owners and managers should perform their own analysis to devise a plan for better practices and employee engagement.
Develop better performance management techniques, develop better employee evaluations. Highlight great performers but encourage others to do better. Take into account employee concerns and comments for considerations of improvements. Create skill improvement programs. Create a platform for open discussions without harsh criticism. The list could go on and on. A company should really take the time to brainstorm about what works and what doesn’t work. Then with that list they should devise a plan, then monitor their plan over time and make adjustments as need.

As this New year 2011 has all festivals on either Saturday or Sunday, I would prefer HR could think some things where in we can indulge our employees day for entertainment as our employees would become frustrated working all days without an extra holiday. This year would benefit for our employers but we have to take care for our employees also as this may also lead to increase in downfall of employee numbers.

I completely agree on this...this year fun should be on the agenda. Companies should try to make work as fun so that they can retain the best talents.
