Build infrastructure with private investment hand in hand with govt. spending.

idea posted by Abraham Paul Senior Telecom Consultant, FCOMNET- Future Groups

Country is not yet ready to fully hand over entire infrastructure development programs and profit making PSUs to private sector. It will cause more problems in the current situation of high unemployment and the gap in the economic divide between rich and poor.

Infrastructure enhancement should be implemented with Private sector and Government hand in hand.

Alongwith that, it is necessary to quckly improve bureaucratic functions and support profit making pSU's; putting control corporates from unbridled amassment of private wealth, so tht benefits of infractructre development reach the people, instead of making the rich, more richer.

Most of those in the in the helms of bureaucratic establishments are very experience in their field and highly efficient, and inspite of their limitations and much less remuneration compared to those in much smaller private enterprises.   The bueaucrats should be given freedom to perform without interference from politicians succumbing to pressure from private sector.

The Government should take care that public land is not wasted for private gain.  An example is the Bangalore Mysore corridor (NICE Road).

Tens of thousands of acres of land was allotted for this purpse.  My argument is not on the allotment process nor extent of land.  even Supreme Court is engaged in this.

My argument is on the toll tariff.  Toll is shamelessly high.  The promoter's argument is that the government signed this and he is collecting toll!  His other argument is that people save on fuel by travelling on this road and let them pay!  If people are made to pay to a private party what they save through a government infrastructure investment which is actually tax payer money, why should there be a government to govern at all?  Even a BOOT, BOT, BOO is considered government investment.  The partner in the project of course makes the investment on behalf of the government and takes a reasonable return on the investment.

Especially, when land is allotted for township projects, road investment and maintenance cost should be subsidised from township projects.  This principle is overlooked in this project

Work to bring black Money from Swiss Bank

idea posted by Jay Makwana Media Development Manager, Times of Oman

BJP had made this the most important ISSUE in their election campaign. Congress Govt have gr8 economists who can come out with Innovative ways to encourage politicians/businessmen to convert their Black Money to white by paying nominal Income Tax - slabwise.

This will increase circulation of hidden money and pump up our country's money for various development activities.

Should improve the current economic growth in this competitive world

idea posted by Kalaiselvi HR Executive, Live Connections

Whether they will bring out black money or not; the major expectation is to improve the current economic growth in this competitive world. This is one of the highest expectation from lower level people to higher level. UPA Government should give a prior level to Industries, Agriculture etc by using our own resources in India. It will help Indians to be a proud.

Regards,

Kalaiselvi.

idea posted by SR Sham Sunder CEO/MD/Director Technoaid

Every time Manmohan had a free hand, he achieved something out of the box.  He has never boasted on it.  If anyone else had defended secial schemes for minorities like he did, there would have been chaos but coming from him, it appeared normal and necessary.  His call for inclusive economy had a dignity built around it.  His MPLAD scheme itself was noteworthy.  I need not highlight economic reforms and all of you are aware.

India is in for a positive change and the architect would remain modest, subtle and effective.

Better governance and reforms

idea posted by ramachandran venkat narayanan Chartered Accountant/CPA, Right Track Consulting

It is indeed good that the congress is heading the coalition and that too without the left. That will ensure continuity and more freedom to pursue reforms in different sectors. It is also time to improve the relationship with the US and we need to run faster in this direction.I am afraid, the increasing militancy in Pakistan and the nuclear arsenal there are great causes of concern for us.This is more serious than recession and other issues. For the same reason, we need to improve the relations with Pakistan and should communicate with the public at large in Pakistan. This needs lots of new ideas and we should do that.

Facelift to education system

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

According to me , Dr Manmohan Singh, has many challenges on the education front also. Academicians also expect much from his government to give a facelift to the system in this competitive world.
according to articles:
Academicians are eagerly expecting a policy decision on the recommendations of Prof Yash Pal Committee, which suggested revamping the higher education system, including abolition of statutory bodies like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),

I also Agree with the article and government should go for more Universities. What u people say?

Clean Environment

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

This is the second most factor after education as Sudeep has suggested!

We witness loads of development wherever we go nowadays. Construction is again on the upswing. Felling natural habitat is also on the rise simultaneously. With better technology and paying to needs of keeping the air clean our government should take strict measures to ensure that spaces that are allocated for construction need to be demarked and kept in areas where residing populace can breathe in peace!

Water and its usage should be under strict control. More decisive steps to employ waste management, water management and energy management should be employed to keep the growing demand happy with supply! Population growth check has to be equally important and it should be followed proactively.

Similarly Infrastructure for better living in terms of traffic control needs to be looked into URGENTLY. Use of POOL system should be implemented in the cities that  need to have more cars OFF the roads. USe of public transport and (in case of Mumbai) train transport has to be dealt with more determinedly.

i agree with markand here and today the Air we breathe is clogged with pollution, there is no more clean air in the cities..only Rural people are blessed with clean Air these days...and development should happen, but not at the cost of green around the cities..should go for some alternate ways..In case of Bangalore which was the Garden city of India, is no more a Garden city...its chaotic out there with so much traffic and less green in the name of infrastructure development...So the Government should give more Emphasize on Clean Environment......

Transparency

idea posted by Ahmed Sultan, ITC Airline Consultant

Transparency is the key to the implementation of all expectations. Without transparency, corruption will find its way to creep into all aspects of life which in turn will negatively affect the issues of education, security, and economy. Moreover, transparency will ensure proper utilization of available resources and reduce the loopholes.

I would like to see the UPA adopt a more rational attitude towards the running of the economy. Nothing can be achieved if a rational model or target is fixed for development and administration.

So they should have a base model of the economy consisting of sectors such as government, household, manufacturing, financial intermediaries and an expanded one with farm and non farm sector, markets etc;.

They should find ways and means to endow the individual, bettering academia to migrate from inadequate campuses to more scientific ones with welfare if possible.

To cut a long story short more free market initiatives and lesser of Sociaiistic ideas in policies and implementation.

1st and Foremost :Security

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

I think the events of 26/11 exposed our vulnerability to terrorist threat. A tough and uncompromised security machinery is fundamental to the survival and growth of our country. At the same time, we need a more pragmatic and objective foreign policy that singularly protects and promotes India's security and business interest.

One more thing I want to add to this is :
For security propose government should give Unique Identy card with joint venture with any business farm.

I agree.  A unique multipurpose id card (embedded smart card) which every citizen should have is a necessity.  Next most of the lifestyle features and activities should include recognition of this smart tag.  The recognition should be seamless.  Next, all vehicles can have this smart (perhaps rafd) tag with built in features to make way for each other, emergency measures etc.  This could be an accessories which could be on trial basis for some time and then made compulsory.

Needless to say, the volumes are large and are technology gadgets.  These can only be implemented with private sector and industry participation.
