The economic scenario in India is quite an attraction for the ‘wannabe entrepreneur’. A lot of young professionals on the block are more and more inspired to start up their own ventures, to be kings of their own castles, so to say, to be their own boss. After bagging an international degree or having served a few years in a multinational corporate, their aspirations are high and dreams are big.

‘I want to be an entrepreneur’ is the silent wish of many and yet entrepreneurship eludes most. But the million dollar question remains, “Do you have it in you to be an Entrepreneur?” OR What does it takes to be an entrepreneur??

Entrepreneur is a mentality

idea posted by Veena Gupta Analyst, Blackstone Group

I think its not a designation, being an entrepreneur is a mentality. Its the way you think, not the title that you own. People think that just because they have a vision, that's good enough to qualify as an entrepreneur.

Are you self-driven ? Are you the kind of person who takes initiative or are you the kind of person who needs to be pushed into action. An entrepreneur can be spotted in an office, at a public park, in the queue at the railway station, anywhere. You can tell an entrepreneur by his eagerness to take initiative.

It is also a quest within one's self that a person actually has. To achieve something 'meaning' full in life. how strong is the pull that it may lead to a particular set of actions that will culminate in to a visible impact on the surrounding and also to self satisfaction.

DIFFERENT THINKING

idea posted by NATTERAJA R. ARIKRISHNAN GM-Projects, Bentec Electricals & Electronics Pvt. Ltd

People after their education and having acquired different type of experiences in their profession wish to start their own business. But everybody can not start their business they like that requires finance, the ability to run the business, and the organizing & resource mobilization capability, and also the acumen in dealing with the human resources. Hence certain people prefer to remain in services.

Then what makes people to become an entrepreneur, the DIFFERENT THINKING only. The successful people think differently and they differ from others in doing things in a better and remarkable ways. They are well equipped to face challenges and do things differently to make a mark.

In case of professionals turned entrepreneurs, they may not be able to do certain things as they like due to their bosses who are sitting in the helm of affairs. Under the circumstances, their dreams could not be converted into the action or realization. Therefore, these category of peoples venture into starting on their own and becomes the kings of their own empire.

Thanks for the referral Ms. Veena.

The optimisim and faith in the thinking of an entrepreneur makes the things better. Some think it is all about money and really it is not. It is about who you are as a person and how much conviction you have in mind/yourself. The venture is not just about a big idea, but a whole host of ideas to keep trying as many of them as one can and to pursue that those work and dicarding those that is not viable.

Some think that just because they have a vision which will be good enough to qualify as an entrepreneur. So entrepreneur is not a MENTALITY but the mentality with different thinking to get involved himselve/themselves in the assignment targetted and converting the thinking into a real one or executing the plan of action. Hence having the sheer mentality will never help to accomplish. An entrepreneur is a kind of person who takes initiatives and push the things to have done. He is a kind of person who does not need permission to do things, to change things, and to create things.

He is a person with self-motivation or self-motivated with different thinking to achieve the target set and without which an enterprise does not come into existence. I WANT TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR IS A WISH OR MAY BE A MENTALITY that needs some basic skills to even develop. Capital and ideas alone do not create entrepreneurs, the attitudes and the different thinking from others does. If that is worked upon then one can be an entrepreneur at whatever post he holds.

Ms. Veena mentality is related to the different thinking, is it not?

Well, how the mental outlook and mental build up comes to the entrepreneure and it is because of the different thinking which forms in their mind that in turn becomes their mentality..  Am I correct or not ?

An Attitude to make difference

idea posted by Shridhar Chandru Faculty SSIMS, Education Services

To be an entrepreneur is to have an attitude to make difference in the society. To make the presence felt in society by creating employment, wealth to the nation and society. Money, status, recognition comes in as a package automatically if the above mentioned are performed responsibly. But this thought is triggered by THE ATTITUDE TO MAKE DIFFERENCE

To be an entrepreneur one needs to be very passionate about what he plans to do.  This will trigger his inner drive to do better.  He has to do a proper SWOT analysis to create a UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION to carve a niche against the competition that exists.

One of them is GUT FEELING towards their idea (be it a hobby or the need of the market) & POSITIVE ATTITUDE towards any situation (whether personal problem or red-tapism). And the most is the PATIENCE, till your idea turns into a Venture. Not only in a Venture but in a viable big business. And also one cannot calculate the marketing trends & predict the Break Even, easily in short run.

And above all Entrepreneurship is another name for RISK TAKING (calculative risks).

In short it not complicated to construct a business, but it’s difficult to run it & sustain the relations (Customers, Employees, Suppliers, Government, Shareholders & most with the FAMILY).

Sponsorship

idea posted by Joydeep Dasgupta Business Development, New Horizon

Human beings live in a society, to do any entrepreneurial activity the entrepreneur is dependent on the society, be it product, service, concept etc.  Unlike government body an entrepreneur do not have the tax axe, nor can he arrest or serve search warrant, so he has to rely  on the society where he lives or operate where such environment exist or he has to create it.

It is the entrepreneurs who create wealth (capital in terms money, human resource, physical assets intellectual property, new operating standards) by mobilizing existing resource in a country thru their initiatives; the government is a canopy to provide guidelines to allow such initiatives to bear fruits.

Entrepreneur makes the ordinary extra-ordinary, as they themselves are extra-ordinary, look at Bill Gates an ordinary college dropout became “extra ordinary” now feeding more than half of the world, it took him some three decades writing software codes for x86 Intel chips to reach where he has reached today. Is it “passion”? Is it “conviction”? Is it “vision”? Or was it that IBM kick from the PC DOS project!! Today IBM recommends Windows 7 for their Think pads & desktops, with Intel inside. So who kicked whom? Microsoft head office is located in Redmond a city in USA not on Moon or Mars or Andromeda galaxy or in some remote cave in Afghanistan.

Thank you Veena.

Imagination!

idea posted by Kusuma S Reddy Market Research Specialist, IBM

It is essential for an entrepreneur to use imagination to propel him in the direction he wants. And this becomes essential at the beginning when things are going against you. You have to hold on to your dreams and imagine the future finish in advance. When entrepreneurs start they had imagination, which had driven them to set up enterprise. Now at any point if they do not meet the targets and they start believing that figures (Reality) are more powerful than their imagination. Or at least they let it to be. With this they give up their power to create and engulf themselves in the negative loop they call reality.

Infinite passion to bring something new into this world

idea posted by John Jacob Consultant, confidential
All entrepreneurs have an infinite passion, a strong compelling force behind them driving towards innovation and success. If you do not love what you do then you cannot be an entrepreneur. Other reasons that go into the making of an entrepreneur are: a). You are fed up of working for somebody b). Your ideas and ambitions are sidelined by your employer c). You see an oppurtunity for a new product or service d). You are ready to put in long hours of hard work and ready to sacrifice anything to achieve your goal
