I doubt any positive effects ,the President-elect Barack Obama had made certain commitments about domestic policies but his agenda on foreign policy remains shrouded with many ‘ifs” and “buts”. Hence to make final statements on the change in administration will be premature. But there are certain points that need to be watched carefully.

I also agree as recession has set in the US economy and has started engulfing other economies as well. Globalisation will now be seen as globalisation of economy and miseries. Obama does not have much to offer to reverse this course. India has to take its own initiative to reverse the disastrous course of economic neo-liberalism.

I agree , especially since,to appease Americans losing jobs in the wake of global economic meltdown, Obama has promised to have a new look to the concept of outsourcing jobs. The Indian IT and BPO sectors with definitely will view this with concern.

I think , in place of the blustering and blundering Bush, Obama will be
a welcome change. In keeping with his personality, change under Obama
will be cautious, calibrated and incremental, but packaged to convey a
clean break from the Bush era. Indian interests demand a new US
approach on challenges ranging from the Pak-Afghan shambles to the
climate crisis.
But new US policies alone cannot be enough. The multiple crises India confronts underscore the need for change there, too. When Manmohan Singh shortly meets his buddy Bush — whose proffered nuclear deal undermines the long-term viability of India’s nuclear deterrent — it will be the coming together of waning stars. |
