Just like, any other ID you get, such as, PAN ID / COLLEGE/SCHOOL/COMPANY. But, here the UID, is issued by the Govt of India, as an authenticated ID card to establish your Identity(carries photo/unique number/date of birth/blood group etc). No need to show Driving liecence /Ration card/Voter list/Passport. This card carries a unique number , may be 10/12/16 digit as we have in Bank card. When you feed the card number, you can retrieve all your personal details from the Database. Help prevent fraud & crimes. |

I totally agree with Mr. Kaliyamoorthy... As he said it is a Unique Identification for each and every person of India.. In my opinion it is related with our country security because many terrorist living in India with fake ID like fake cell number and fake passport, when govt. going to trace out their address or contact number they didn't get enough information and they unable to recognize them. In India there is no other facility to find out or trace out this type of people who is living anywhere in India.. In this UID number we have to give them all information like all fingers finger print, both eye print etc. As we all know whatever we have right now like PAN Card, Driving license, Voter ID etc is don't have this much of information of any person and they are different organization and they have many rules and regulation to show this information to any other organization. So govt. need this UID . In USA every one has this type of ID number and if any thing happen there or any person do some thing wrong then they trace them with all information within a second. So I think this is very good move by Indian govt. we should support and welcome this move...
like name suggests its a unique identity of an indivisual. which can be used for anything/anywhere in India. its a very good step.
Countries like US, Kuwait,oman etc in the Gulf follow this. It does not replace Driving liecence/PAN ID etc. Its only, an authentication to the resident that he is legally, permited to stay. Same philosophy ,will be followed in India, I think so.Duplication of document as people do in Ration card etc will not be easier here because of a unique logo. .Because CivilID is the main document that gives out all required information where-ever you live in India. It need not be, only, for Indiands. Its for all those who are permitted legally to serve in India. When he moves out of India, it will also be cancelled. This will be ensured by Immigration dept.

I think it will be like a mobile identity. For example: Think of it like the mobile phone versus the landline. When we had a landline, you were fixed to a particular location. If I had to reach you, I have to know you are at home or in office. Now when I call you on your mobile, I do not care where you are. Your mobile number goes with you. So this is also a form of mobile identity, it travels with you and wherever you are we can verify about a person’s identity. |

Disha one person who is having UID will prove s/he is an Indian Citizen. This unique number will help identify the APL/BPL persons and in long run will also determine the details of all citizens in regard to earning,taxes etc.
A lot can be accheived by this number in near future once everybody receives the same.
Say for example today you have a bank account number which is unique. The UID will be also something like this.
The UID (Unique Identification) Number is similar to the Social Security Number (SSN) that is given to individuals in the United States and other similar schemes in other countries. It is a unique identity that helps to identify the person irrespective of his location and he can be traced easily. This will help to avoid improper registration of names and other illicit activities.....

No it need not be, only,for Indians. It is for all those who are permited to serve in India. Data bank collects all details for potential worker. I have given supplimentry info. earlier. They can distinguish the card for citizen & non-citizen by design . But , will have a card.

UID (Unique Identity) number will furnish all the details such as birth place, work place etc along with one's social and economic interactions such as country code, state code, district code, tehsil code, Gram Panchayat code, Village code, House no, individual name. Such code of number will be mandatory for every socio-economic-polical function that one will do in his or her life. In this way, any one can be traced for his or her various functions. |

the basic problem of poor governance is not due to attitude but by virtue of unawareness to identify the areas where it has to be applied in proper manner. this will generate data & statistics will help to approach right people in right areas. the UID will help to provide the activities of miscrients whether indian or foreign or unauthorised personal consuming national resource & spoiling it. |

Thanks Disha, To mu understanding: UID number shall have linkages to all other identities and similar documents. Bank accounts, Income tax, passport, election card etc.. all would have connectivity to this number and in future many more dimensions may be possible to add. |

Though PAN card or Passport or etc is well established identification of a person, but maximum % of Indian people do not have these and therefore,UID is the only solution for identification.

UID in India should not compared with social security number or any other number used in the western world. The privacy laws there are very strict while we do not even have proper traffic laws. By creating UID for every Indian the following will happen: a). Political parties and their goons will use UID to see who has how much money in bank and they will use that info to collect contributions from you for every festival, elections and what not b). Local and national thugs and thieves will use UID to decide who to rob tonight c).School and College authorities will decide how much to collect from each student based on UID d).Porters,Coolies,maids,taxi & cab wallahs will decide hwo to charge because they already know how much you have in bank (thanks to UID). e).Using UID your enemies will know what your current phone number is, where you live, what food you buy, whether you drink, smoke , what magazines you read etc etc....harassment based on these will follow f).If some Govt 'babu'(servant) does not like you, they will immediately add a comment under your UID to watch you and not to co-operate with you. So every time to go a govt office, your thing will never get done because of that comment from some moron and mean character g). If Congress comes to power all BJP sympathisers will be harassed using UID and when BJP comes to power all non BJP sympathisers will be harassed using UID. h). Social shaming using UID will become a routine Honestly - UID is good to stop things like terrorism but middle class indians will pay a HUGE price because our laws are poor. |
