Recently Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal expressed concern at the increasing pressure on schoolchildren, resulting in their committing suicide. I have already seen a similar kind of Idea contest where how one should deal Increasing in number of  youth suicide.

But here we are talking of education system which is creating too much of pressure on students, which is making them to commit suicide. So what kind of Education reforms do you want to see in future to prevent less stress among students? Do share your views.

Reduce the cost of Education

idea posted by Smita Dalvi Sales/BD Manager, Hewlett-Packard

I think this is the biggest stressors for some students at the college level as many of them will have considerable debt in the form of education loans, in order to afford tuition fees, campus accommodation and textbooks. Quite often this is a source of great concern for a student who is straight out of high school.

Whilst the debt alone is stressful, the need to service this debt can cause the student to over-extend themselves. This might mean that they have to take on a second job or work long hours as an employee and a student at the same time. This could have knock on effects with the ability to concentrate on their studies which could lead to failure of their course. This would prove stressful. And many times we see these students commit suicide just because they failed in 1 or 2 subjects. So, in this regard Government should help students to get quality education at a affordable price and not like the way where even kindergarten kids will be charged lakhs together to get an admission.  If we reduce the cost of Education then we will see some change in the statistics of students committing suicide. We all need these young minds to take India to the next level, but the current education system is depriving us of many such people.

well Smita...supporting you...most of the college students will relaxed...but for school education we need to reduce work load, interactive program for easy learning etc...such initiatives will help in this

Well said Smita!! :)

May be I partially agree with Smita. Higher the career peak you dream within short span of life, we have to make the proper judgement on our investment towards Education.

Yes, if the schools are charging lakhs of rupees for primary education, it need to be properly scrutinized by the government and there should be system in place to check upon it.

But, inorder to take action by the government. how many parents are questioning this type of high cost primary education and requesting government to take action.

Each of the parents dream that, their childrens wanted to study in best of the schools in town and they pay for it. Is this has been prestigious issue to them in the society???

My question is, if you were to have child which school you prefer in is that Government school or Private Convent School (St. Joseph's, bishop cotton school etc) ???

If you opt for private school also, will you ask them question on fee structure they ll charge upon??

So there is various angle we should look upon this education reform issue. And its just not only the money is??????

Make Learning Through Practical

idea posted by Kashif Billal Training & Induction Manager, H&M Hennes & Mauritz

In order to reduce excess stress, the Syllabus & Methodology should have more & more Practical approach. So that Rather than Cramming a Concept, students can actually understand it from their Practical Experiences.

Make learning through practical is more importanant to reduce the burden, to make education very happy. Practical oriented education is must to learn actual problems on filed. It will be useful in future. Only book knolwedge is not sufficient. To reduce the cost is also important. Make a education easily acessable to each field of society.

In order to change the current Educational System, we need to change the perspective with what the student views a subject.  We must not make it compulsory for a student to learn a subject since it does not do good to him/her at the Corporate Level since he/she lacks the "application of Knowledge".  For example, in Engineering streams, most  of the colleges stuff a lot of unnecessary/outdated knowledge subjects which is not even related to the student' s field of specialization he/she chose.

This must be highly avoided in the mere future else we would be losing out or jobs to the highly competitive Chinese,Germans,Koreans even in our employment world!!!

Wake up Government!!! Wake up!

I CAN SAY MAKE LEARNING THROUGH PRACTICAL MAKES EVERY STUDENT AN AUTHOR FOR HIS OWN BOOKS..(it means they are feeling easy to understand with out any stress)

yes, it is better to make the as more practical ..... from base onwards..

why, i'm supporting more practical B'coz , an every student  feel easy to understand practical knowledge than reading the books (theory) even the below average students also, why B'coz they feel the learned subject(practical) is near to their life....then they express their own views on the concept as a theory what they understand or learned practically

The active participation from Teacher and Parents can lead to avoid stress

idea posted by Satya Prakash Choudhary BD & Sales, AlphaBricks Technologies

The education system in India is falling short at developing student's career. Why are many students committing suicide or find themselves stressful?

The reasons behind it are the tough syllabus and students participation. More to look into the matter closely:  There are two ends i.e Teachers and Parents.

The participation from both ends are required to make student less stressful.

There has been a big gap betwwen both and The participation not only from the teaches but also from the parents is required in order to fill up the gap.

The parents should keep monitoring, helping and becoming friendlier if child is lacking somewhere.

Whereas the teachers should motivate them and help them understand and respond to whatever is required in the subjects.

I agree with you satya, the teachers and parents are the only tool today who can reform the education system and reduce the burden of the children. The points you have mentioned are valuable and let me throw some light. The relationship between the indian parents and children should change to bring change in the education system and students should be thought what they want to lead their life rather than teaching some unreal stories that are of no use and waste of time. Practical should be given more preference than theory.

I wonder so many people in this topic is been argumenting on the teaching methodology. Everyone of us in these debate are well-educated and are in pocessing good careers.

I feel each one of us should understand all the positive aspects of our education time and give insights to negative aspects to make the strategy to overcome them in future generation.

I challenge all the participants in this debate how many of us are going back to schools or colleges to add the value to the education system to improve upon.

Lets not blame the system for some students who are just commiting suicide who are not able to make it. It is problem with parents who dont understand the potential of the children and add unnecessary stress onto the childrens mind.

All of us are different and has our own potential and capability to prove in the society.

IF EVERYONE BECOME DOCTOR, WHO WILL CONSTRUCT BUILDINGS, WHO WILL MAKE THE SOFTWARES.

So all parents it is your call to identify the strengths through teachers and help them in their growth.

education reforms

idea posted by keshava prasad executive-EHS-BPS , MNC

Gud evening

The Main requirement for educational reforms should be universal syllabus for one and all in our nation. This shall be from elementry to 10th standard 0r PUC.

The ICSE,CBSE,State syllabus should be framed to a common one and it should be mandatorily followed throughout.

ThIs if followed can naturally do the needfull.

A complimentry would be to invite respective state Enterprise and Pvt blue chips for participation and provided tax benefits for the same.

This will naturally help for reduction of cost, improve educational standards

thanks

I think money is never the issue

What is lacking is political will

Lets look at education at the grass root levels:there is a school;there are teachers;there  is a syllabus;there are exams;and there is an awarding of a degree

So what is missing?Execution. If the Governmant  is able to channelize all the  funds it pours into Primary education to even give a 20 percent improvement,we can see miraculous development

What we need are not more reforms-what we need now is more focus, better Public-Private partnership, better governance

make learning more practical

idea posted by abhijeet kittoor B.Tech/B.E. student, BMS institute of technology

I feel that students (Especially in professional courses) are given too little time to complete vast portions. Eventually they end up mugging a particular text-book and tend to forget whatever they have studied once the exams are finished.

To avoid this , the students should be allowed to spend equal time on both theoretical and practical applications.

Equal importance should be given to both practical and theoretical knowledge.

Good idea Abhijeet. This is what today's youngsters are looking for. They are more eager to learn new things, so implementing practical learning into the education system will be better than theory.

Reduce bookish knowledge and increase vocational training

idea posted by malladi madhukumar AGM -MKTG, Andhra Cements Ltd

The only measuring stick in education is marks. Ultimately pressure is mounting on students, teadchers and parents to see that wards improve their chances of getting good education by getting good marks.

Getting good job by getting good marks.

Diverting the parents towards vocational cources can reduce the pressure on students for getting marks and they will improve their skills to get better living.

From childhood itself they can become enterpenural.

Govt. educational institutions should bring all necessary reforms in this context.

Yes you are absolutely right mr.Madhukumar, we are creating children with knowledge written in books and not understood from books, we are creating jacks, servants, job seekers, frustrated children by supporting this ugly educational system. We as educated parents should promote enterprenual  activities and skill, in children.thanks for the referral

A child is thinking that If he do not excel in bookishstudies his life has not got meaning and that is the only way to live life. Many of the parents also think so, either because of their ignorance or little education.

Parents should be educated about avenues for livelihood.

Tv Channels should give  career oriented councelling which will help the country with more than 40%population is blow 30 years.

Vocational courses from High school level should be the most appropriate solution which can imbibe confidence in child , making him more creative, leading to more constructive and positive thinking.

Education Reform

idea posted by Nikhil V A Assistant Engineer, MGNREGS Central govt. scheme

I think the whole system from the grass root level has to be changed. In these days we can clearly see that even from primary schools children are stressed to face the so called " Race for Life". I strongly believe that education at school standards must be in such a way that it helps a student to understand what are their capabilities and how they can select a career so that they could fully utilize their skills. Instead what we have here is school managements pressurizing those little minds and pushing them for better marks so that management can say "Oh look! We are the number one..! Join and be a part of this institution...!!!"

I am not saying that mark system has to be fully removed. It must be there as some students must be forced a little bit to study :). But it must be given a secondary importance. What must be given prime importance is that to discover skills and interests of students by themselves and to help them to decide what is best for them. For this to happen, not only the school managements but also the parents must be cooperative to excel their child to the best. I think this way we can have better doctors, engineers, inventors, artists etc

Education reforms are first and foremost requirement to reduce stress and pressure on the student.

Now a days student day starts at 7am ends at 8.30 to 9 pm. go to school , attend classes and homework in house. In many of the schools no play time only education.

More over cirriculum is same to each and every student irrespective of the students'APTITUDE AND NECESSITIES OF LIFE. THIS KIND OF EDUCATION IS PROVIDING more graduates competing for jobs.  Even graduates with better academic marks are being preferred for jobs. This kind of environment is creating fear in the mind of parents that less marks may effect the career of their children.

1. Enough  options should be made available for students to choose from class 8th to choose their career so that intrest of the students is perceived  and he enjoys the education.

2. The burden of homework should be reduced.syllabus should be planned in such a way that  there is no undue pressure on the students.

3. Education should give hope , intrest in life , intrest for life,  better life.

Necessary rerforms should be taken up to ensure better lives for the future citizens of our country and syllabus should be planned accordingly so that the child enjoys studies.

Excellent ...

Look here for some of my ideas

All education is finding one's own real center...true nature i.e., to be able to live happy, active, purposeful life, actualizing one's own gifted talents. This requires, identifying one's inherent potentialities. And this in turn requires, uncovering, developing them, if they are hidden or latent from consciousness. Life is nothing, but series (or line or chain) of possibilities...

This is the basic issue of dealing with Life.

To live Life most effectively against all odds ...                                           is the basic issue.

Therefore, we have to live in harmony, peace, and effectiveness. This means producing results, bringing harmony in disharmony by relating better with both inside and outside possibilities and integrate them wherever required.

This is the crux of whole education...as unfoldment, expansion, upliftment and reaching a cent-percent self-actualization, wholesomeness growth development in harmony as well as progress, prosperity in material (worldly) terms by enriching our and other's lives by removing and being free of lack, poverty, fear and dependence of any and every type.

There is a rhythm and natural growth and natural growth in Nature. Each species grows as per its unique nature, quality and characteristics. If we closely & keenly observe nature, there is cooperation in growth of life forms and also mutual support  ~ and unfolding of its unique qualities as per individual seeds, if adequate nourishment and nurturing in terms of inputs of food, water, sunlight, fertilizers and catalysts are provided at the right time and place. This is the the philosophy or theory of growth, evolution and/or unfoldment – or in short Education …

Perfection is the ultimate in this unfoldment or growth and the quality & characteristic of perfection is inherent in any seed.

School Education must be more spectroscopic

idea posted by Mathew Cherian Research Associate/Analyst, Western Michigan University

I feel there must be more to school education, like they must include, 1)psychology 2) choice of foreign languages like either German, French or Sanskrit and 3) Music as compulsory courses along with your streamline curricullum. Psychology helps in Objective selection in later years of skill development,  a foreign language and music helps in freeing time later years learning them and musci is a stress buster. Moreover craming them with just science and mathematics without these stress busters can be dreadful.

In my view, more emphasis should be given on practical learning instead of theoretical knowledge. Instead of blindly following the books, teachers should encourage students to know why these things happen. Teachers should encourage students to learn things by doing more and more practical. Also instead of marks system, grade system should be applicable from the primary class so that students never afraid from examinations and they don’t leave studies due to the pressure of getting marks above 90%. In exams also, equal importance should be given to practical. In schools games participation should also be encouraged by teachers.

Run behind excellence and not the success

idea posted by Sharad Kiyal Financial Planning Advisor, Aviva Life Insurance

Recently the movie 3idiots have changed the mindset of the people and it says the truth of success, it says- "Learn excellence and success will be at your footstep". Students must be encouraged to learn about the things they are interested in then the work will be fun rather then a pressure. So now its the time to be excellent in one field and not the jack of all. So parents and teacher help there child to find there interesting subject and make them what they want to become and not what there parents want them to become then they will create history.

Dont try to measure ones memory, but their analytic skills shd be measured. Open book exam system would help to do it

Making growth a progressive transition and not Paradigm shifts.

idea posted by Sujeet Vishwakarma Managing Director, RCA Group

Our Education system is governed by the bodies responsible of making the people Educated.

All the schools are different. A boy switches schools, he has to adapt entirely to a new environment, study pattern, everything. Somewhere inside he feels, all his experience from past is irrelevant for the present. A Generalist till Class 10th, all of a sudden has to make a paradigm focus shift from Science sst Math, english and sanskrit, only to find that now he has to chose only one among the all subjects he read till then. Isn't this choice discomforting?

Then again post 12th, he has to go for grads, same Cycle repeats, Post Graduation, the same vicious cycle repeating.

Making at least four Paradigm attitudinal and perception shifts, a child is barely left decisive.

Then he is supposed to look for JOB?

and he has no practical exposure to back him there, all the 17 years of education feels vague in front of the new experience he gets, hence he again has to change by a paradigm.

I feel the Education System should focus on making this abrupt process more smooth and transition mode easily practicable.

It can be done by telling a class Vth student, why he needs to study all that he has to study in 6th class.

It can be done by telling the students that they can asses their core intrest areas in class 9th itself, because many proffessional diplomas also engage 10th pass.

I donot say students need to be exposed to all aspects of society.

But if we can afford to keep them in vacuum till junior highs, cant we be generous enought to guide them through their life transitions by giving them planned exposures.

Companies look for Employable people not educated people.

Education was started by Brits to get cheap labor in India, wherein they would not have to import costly clerks from UK, and the education imparted was made with a motive of imparting knowledge to the seekers that would only lead them to be good clerks-

the whole purpose have not been sorted out till date and only some reforms have been made, i remember reading my NCERT Books and i remember seeing the changes that were made it was shoking to know that the contents were same for ages,

the to be thought should have relevance to the current world scenarios and current practices,

fortunately and unfortunately our eduction is the most comprehensive text in the entire world but its without any directions.

i am sure if it has a direction then students will have less burden.
