What else do you want your ATM to do apart from lending money?

I think these ATM kiosks should not just be cash dispensers and they should offer other varied services like utility bill payments, and this will help many to avoid the long queues and also it will reduce the need to even get on the net, where still Internet connectivity is lacking in India, so apart from lending money if bill payments also happens in these ATM's it will be a bit more useful.

It is seen that in some of the ATM's one can also recharge their mobile too I mean extend the balance that is available on their mobile phones, if this there in all the ATM's it will help people as there is no need to go to other outlets for mobile recharge.

Many times we find ourselves or others making great efforts to get train tickets or even platform tokens in the 11th hour rush that too at limited counters.

I think this can be a great relief for many, even one will be able to secure reservation with that.

We have a Manned ATM like machine installed by BESCOM in Bangalore for Electricity Bill paymernt. Ataendent is available to help people to use the ATM between 9 Am to 8 PM but the machine can be used 24 hrs a day. you can pay by cheque, cash or transfer from your bank. While there is a help manue if one is not coversant with the use of the ATM he will take long time and the queue builds up infront of the machine. Similalry in bank ATM.s some times you will find long queues. The facility currently available is related to banking only. It is a good idea to add train / Bus ticketing, Utility bill payment. We can even think of information kiosks, which provide information where a registered user of ATM can get various information like location and route search, birth plat form for train and Bus, Various govt rules, info on road condition and trafic, Government procedures and so on. registered user can deposit amounts and based on his use fee may be deducted from his deposite. registered user can be given USER ID which may be merged with the national ID which is now proposed. Even facility caan be provided on credit and customer billed directly through his bank.

I think adding a page/option that connects to a railway reservation system is entirely viable with the present setup itself at no extra cost.The amount can be directly deducted from the account,and some form of a reciept/ticket/voucher can be directly printed by the ATM machine itself.Similarly Movie tickets can also be obtained at local ATM.Kavita and Sudeep have already added the other two most important points.Thanks to both of you.

I think banks should start cash deposit facility at the ATMs, which will save the customers time to visit a branch & wait in a queae. It will be more convinient as one will be able to deposit cash anytime.
