2 Discount or full-service broker which one do you prefer
3 Check out the brokers background
4 Find out about the commision, annual fee, transcation fee they charge

Get referrals

Find out from other people which broker they use and why they have selected them, it is better to choose someone whom you have heard good things about. Get referrals and choose the best.

Referral plays a major role in all the field, its better to get referral than choosing on your own as you can get to know the broker how he performs before you actually choose him. Your friend or family experience about a specific broker can have a great influence on choosing the right one.

Discount or full-service broker which one do you prefer

idea posted by Jyoti Rath Sr. Associate, Barclays

Before you choose decide on whether you are looking for a help of discount or full service broker.

As discount broker offers little advice and gets commissions on each on each purchase. whereas a full-service broker will provide more investing assistance, but for a fee. Knowing what you are looking for will save you time.

Choose one which suits you the best...

Check out the brokers background

Having a check on to the brokers background will make sure whether he/she is properly licensed, find out his experience, how he/she used to approach the market for investing. Don't choose someone who is not licensed.

Find out about the commision, annual fee, transcation fee they charge

Before choosing find out what commissions they charge and how is it determined. Do they prefer annual fee or transaction fee. Also find out when you are expected to pay those.
