Web Technology is One Special Case of Client/Server Technology , where
Your Web Browser is the Client & the Web Server is the Server . Client /Server is a more generic term where there could be non web base client & servers . In both cases clients start the talk / requests and servers respond to the requests . For web they use HTTP protocol as a way of talking for client/server as it is generic term they could be using any protocol including some thing you can imagine and create to talk . In short again web technology is a special case of client /server technology which is popular and prevalent today. |

Client/Sever technology is the generalization of client/server
technology, where the client side uses all kinds of web technologies.
Web technologies are popular, as web browsers are commonly used and
already provide a framework to run your client. Using scripting
languages like JavaScript and VBScript your web client can perform sophisticated tasks and not just present static pages.
I also recommend using the term "web based technologies" and not "technology" as there are many aspects and many technologies that are using - for example, HTML/DHTML , scripting and more. In contrast to web-based clients, many times rich clients are used - these are clients that are written from scratch, not using (or almost not using) the web browser. Such clients are written using MFC in c++ over windows, WinForms using .net based languages, and Swing/SWT/AWT using Java. |
