Thank you Sir for a better insight on the topic. But the first part of the 'idea' is a question and second part is a debate and this over all is a beautiful knowledge giving article :) Anyways, Ego is a Latin word meaning "I"!! And too much of ego, is too much of "I, me , myself" is definitely dangerous. Human mind needs to be balanced. Imbalance causes mental disoreders and one of the main cause is "I". When it comes to maintaining EGO in oneself, we can divide this EGO in two parts. I-for-Respect and I-as-Obsession. I-for-Respect is necessary and the later is not. All and all we need to undersatand the word EGO as "I" and we will be able to make our own choices without any doubt in our minds. |

If there is ego in oneself then it will always be "I" there will be no chance to see any relationship as "we" the focus will always be on Me Rather than We.
Heave you ever listened to Frank Sinatra's "My Way"? ... Well, some balancing would be welcomed ...
Everybody has Ego but who is in a position to control according to various situations is the one who is winner always.

Is it right to maintain Ego for oneself? The name Psyche is derived from the Greek word psic meaning soul. In Psychology Psyche means an ensemble of thoughts and actions that manifests our behaviour. The psychic system formation around a persons behaviour can be factored in as, 1) Ego: which is defined as the repressed values and goals one perceives to be needed for life. It is repressed since we fear many of our values and goals negative and positive are not conducive to societies general goals or beliefs. 2) SuperEgo: This is those ideas, values and goals that manifests in physical behaviour. These we deliberately manifest for reason that they are conducive to societies aspirations and goals. 3) Libido: Obsessive love for ones mother which later displaces to love for opposite sex. 4) Mortido: Compulsive respect and hatred for the Father which later is the cause for Psychosis. These create the basic building block of the psyche, which a mentally healthy person is not supposed to maintain for healthy behaviour. I will explain the first one since that is being inquired about often. Ego presents a route towards ‘neurosis’, which is one of the most painful mental disorders, since neurosis is defined as the persons tactic to cover up his or her defect the covering up is nothing but repression which corrodes our unconscious and later on become cause for manifestation of misbehaviour. To understand better neurosis one is recommended to read Professor Sigmund Frueds book ‘Uncanny’ which will go into some routes of neurotic behaviour including homosexuality. |

Yes I agree fully your points of view on this subject Mr.Mathew Ji.

Ego is a negative thing which should never be there in the picture of life, which should be our target.
It’s completely different thing that no-one can achieve it.
When it comes to self respect it’s not necessary to expose ego, the same thing can be done by discipline also.
Disciplined life will never make you to lose yourself respect so it’s totally unjustifiable argument that in order to have self respect we should have some ego.
Ego only helps us to make enemies.

Ego is quite different from self respect. Self respect comes out of self confidence and an assured character. Ego, on the other hand, mostly comes out of a feeling of incipient insecurity, expressed in a reaction of aggressiveness or anger. Ego clouds our judgment, and hampers us from forming judicious decisions and views.
