Stay productive

idea posted by Shaikh Imran HR Manager, TCS
During recession its obvious that company may layoff, so you might get busy with internet job search but make sure that when your boss arrives or notices you, finds you working rather than searching a job. Stay productive and do concentrate on your job.

I agree tom Shaikh, If you are productive recession won't affect you. During recession what a company wants is nothing but results.. Therefore if you are productive the company will not remove you.

Do your best and any work done will become evident and no way for being a victim during recession

Try to give that extra 1%.

Going above and beyond your normal responsibilities by taking on extra work or mentoring someone new to your organization helps demonstrate your value.

We all know workers with high skills not easily replaced so if your skills are becoming obsolete, now is the time to bring yourself up to speed and learn new ones. You'll be in a much safer position when the value you can provide exceeds the salary you're being paid.

STAY PUT

Well from what I have been noticing amongst my friends are the following points.:

1. Stay along with your bosses.

2. Take them for a drink or two.

3. Give your best at work. Best  & logical ideas, even the ones you have saved for yourself.

4. Give your boss an idea about cutting salaries of all the employees by a certain percentage instead of chucking them out.

Stay positive. The most important. And enjoy.

Stay focussed on continuously upskilling and make yourself indispensable

Continuous upskilling makes you a much stronger professional which can help grow your valuation within the organisation and the management will see you as a vital & critical resource who can help in winning in troubled times.

Keep an eye on what's happening around

I think we should also have a look around to know whats happening in the economy other than our very own company so that we can understand what will affect us and when.

Be visible

Make sure your organization and your boss are aware of you, your work and your value to the company. If your boss doesn't know who you are, feels indifferent about you or is unsure of your contributions, you'll be a lot easier for him to lay off when he's told to cut staff. He recommends several ways for employees to boost their visibility, including by promoting their work, dressing more nicely and professionally than co-workers and by coming into work before your boss arrives and going home after your boss leaves, even if that means arriving just 10 minutes before your boss and leaving 10 minutes after your boss.

Always have good relations with your boss

idea posted by Vidyasagar Reddy HR Manager, Cranes Software
Mandated staff cuts give managers the opportunity to get rid of employees whom they don't like personally or who are too high-maintenance for the boss to handle. Those employees may work hard and may do good work, but they might also be whiners and complainers, gossips or back-stabbers who badmouth co-workers.

"Bosses have been known to keep employees they like over employees they don't like even if the person the they don't like is more qualified than the person they like.

So if you're easy to work with and easy to talk to, you have a good chance of dodging a bullet.
