The web today, is totally ignored and completely pointless. It has lesser text links and even lesser ones that make us click on them. Youtube is getting movie rentals to its fold. Youtube is also taking some interesting measures to stop being the high maintenance girl in the Google group.

They’re looking at beyond ads, the text links that crop up when you watch some really popular videos are not working well enough. Also, their other initiatives- Android, Android App Market, Chrome OS, Google Wave, etc all suggest that Google has figured online ads are nearing a dead end. Search becoming irrelevant through social systems is another worry that adds to this thought. Drastic statement but unlike 2012 prophecy seems a lot more real.

So I want to ask you people, according to you, what do you think is the future of display advertising?

Through digital media, people can be driven through an entire process– to the last mile as they say, through an online marketing campaign unlike other media. So when ads are differently designed replica of the old idea of advertising, it won’t work. That’s why Google stepped out into the app eco system where everyone else though is not Google, are clearly advertising as a concept is not going anywhere, because it works on other media. We just need to figure out how we’re going to advertise on digital media, the right way to do it. And if this process is done properly, I am sure, display advertising will get a new direction...

Hi, I fully agree with you that "Market covering by digital media" is vital. But it should cover the desired group for that respective product/service.

Local display ad is mainly used by retailers(mainly by supermarkets and department stores) to cover the local market the newspaper is covering.It boosts immediate sales. National level display ad is for branded products generally used by automakers, airlines and major retail chains etc. As day by day products are becoming customized digital ad is getting advantage. In U.S. automakers are resorting to magazines and newspapers, infomercials to give more descriptions of the products for the knowledge sophisticated customers.

In digital media, "Rich Media"  formats may become the most popular and effective in to-days environment of display advertising.. this may be an animated GIF or a Flash banner, may showcase the  present Web's innovation and versatility in ( digital ) display advertising.

VM - On Ground

Digital is fine as you have the various ad formats with wiodgets, tweets and FB groups. The real challenge is at the ground level where visuals salivate the consumers. VM is developing and that too BIG TIME. there are various formats available on ground as well that would attract, salivate and induce the consumers.

So for me VM is the format on ground! Thanks for the referral Purvi :)
