If someone had told me in the past that within the next two decades Indian automotive companies would be rubbing shoulders with their MNC counterparts, and some actually acquiring iconic brands, I would have really laughed it off.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6IKlwsOckvw/S7LyXSS2ksI/AAAAAAAAAO0/nDgH2lZSl7Q/s1600/Indian-auto-industry.jpg

But today we can see Indian companies acquiring iconinc brands world over and are having tie-ups with various MNC's and also we can give ourselves a credit of creating the world's cheapest car. But, still that elusive ingredient is missing for our Indian auto industry to truly become global where single handedly Indian brands are dominating world over.  So, what is the mantra for Indian auto industry to truly become global?? Invest in Research & Innovate

idea posted by Ravindra Sharma Managing Consultant, CHEF-India

Thanks for invite Mridula,

The volumes that we see are a result of large size of market as also years of neglect of infrastructure led to a situation where to reach some where near a developed tag a lot became necessary and for this lots of money required to be pumped in, in a rather short duration. In addition IT has as well contributed in more disposable income at hands of a few.

Yet to take all this to next levels just volumes will not suffice therefore unless investment in research and innovation is done this will at best be a flash.

Even to look for alternate fuels or technologies it is research that can take forward.

To be continuously in the forefront requires focus on quality and investment in research and development and an innovative approach to problem solving and idea generation. This should be coupled with a good distribution network and a global focus.

Additionally, having sufficient funds and resources along with the contact network will ensure that the Indian Auto Industry will become truly global.....

Consolidation & going global

idea posted by Mridula Maity Product Development Manager, Rugel

Going global is the mantra because only with competition does one benchmark against the best in the business and this helps growth in many different ways.

Just fast forward to the present and you have a global field which looks mighty different had we plotted out a mind map from that period. Not only do we have Tata Motors spearheading the Indian automotive foray along with Mahindra & Mahindra and of course Maruti-Suzuki , we also have India being looked at not just as the potentially largest car market in the world within the next decade but also the fact that it has the means to leapfrog many others in the field of small A1 and A2 compact hatchbacks....I mean this is one such way where Indian automobile industry can truly go global..would like to know others views and their ideas in this regard.

Designing and producing such a winner would truly make us a global auto power!!!

The entire anciliary group has been present for a long time - TVS, Bajaj and so on. This achievement of global status is actually faith acompli. A logical extention of what was already in place. This is the return on investment that we are getting for having a good auto ancilliary industry in place.

On a different note, I would really like to see a car - a great car - designed in India thatbecomes a global winner!!!! Now that would be something to achieve!

CUSTOMER VALUE CREATION & BRAND MANAGEMENT

idea posted by JAYARAM V B.Tech/B.E. student, CALICUT UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF ENGG & TECHNOLOGY
indian auto giants first need to identify a value or quality that they should choose to provide to the customer, which allows the customer to have a brand recall . Example...volvo means and stands for safety, german car makers stand for efficiency and performance, similarly the japaneese. the indian car makers first need to set goals on what they should stand for ...in the eyes of the world audience. then think about investing and channelizing there ideas in that direction.and create products that define the selected values.

You are right. one issuethat TTM will have to face is IMDS (International Material Data System).

Up to now, TTM is still not a member while all other global car mabufacturers are.

I guess this is now mandatory to run car business.

Hi all,

Even if the indian car market is booming, does anyone think that Tata Motors  and other indian car makers have now the skills ad experience to compete with Japanese and Chinese competitors in other asian coutries ?

For instance, I have read that most of Tata Nano parts were coming from China. So, will Nano succed in China or compete with Chinese car makers, considering this statement ?

Regards

Bruno

Quality of parts supplied by the Vendor.

Quality of parts supplied by the Vendor. This is one problem thats plaguing all the cars . This problem has even hit the global players like Fiat. Their past association with PAL seems to have effected the future quality as well. Though other manufacturers like Honda / Toyota  have found out capable vendors.

+ Development of more express ways.
