Hi, First of all I would like to inform you that Oil and Gas Industry is no more a growing industry rather it is a sinking industry. This is beacuse of higher exploration cost and low margin on retail sales. Also this industry is getting biggest threat from the alternative energy. Never the less the professional working in Oil and Gas Industry should acquire the knowlege of Project Management. This professional with Project Management domain are really in demand. Hi Praveen, I am Pramod, looking for an opportunity with Purchase Department in Oil & Gas sector. I have overall 12 years of experience in Purchase with manufacturing/ trading/ Distributor industry companies. I worked with Paint manufacturing Indian MNC-Asian Paints(I) Ltd,Godrej-Boycee & IT distributors like Techpacific(I) Ltd. Right now I am working in Oman with one of the leading contracting company-M/s. Hasan Juma Backer Tradg & Contracting Co Procuring Construction industry items. Will I get an opportunity in case I want to move to Oil & gas industry. I this a right time to do that. Please suggest.....

This is one department that interests most of the students while they doing their research. It requires an in depth knowledge in chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics. These activities relate to both onshore and offshore exploration and production activities. But there are more departments that can be explored. |

I guess even GEO-TECHNICAL engineering is very much closer to oil & gas industry.

Good Thread indeed. Though I accept Mr. Praveen, To perfect the alternative energy and to enhance its adoption has a long way to go. So let us take the new young graduates and the rest who gonna be graduate with in the next couple of years. Any Engineering Discipline with in the oil and gas industry has a good scope, how ever it is all depend on how one seriously set the career goal with in the oil and gas industry. Largely Discipline Engineering, Integrity, Chemical has various possibility to become successful in once career. |

Exactly sir,scopewise it growing industry but at the same time due to increment in fuel consumption it is sinking industry too.....but most importantly serious should be made to make perfect balance between these two.if we wiil just think about oil and gas sector,problems and put our sincere effort in this regards which is our main goal.............then scope no worry...

Oil and Gas industry have very wide scope in India as well as outside. In india currently 3 institutes giving management education in that focused sector out of that 2 are running by state owned companies. Why? because they were not able to find talented person and now there will be opportunity. these institutes also provide engineering education. |

Hi vishnu I agree with you. But as you said only 3 institutes are providing the education regarding this sector which will not be sufficient. When there is more scope in this sector many institutes should come forward to begin this course in their college.

Operation management is the place where always the demand lies. Attrition is also at its peak here. Depending on the crude characteristics, one has to change almost all parameters and get required cuts which the market demands. Market may require EURO-III or EURO-IV quality products and the operation department has to decide with the Technical Services and get the products in line with the market requirement. Since this varies from refinery to refinery and industry to industry, careers opportunities are maximum here. Layerwise, the scope for further movement is also there. Due to worldwide existance of the industry, scope for job change over is also there. Since products are very widely used and have good demand, the department is always has demand for workforce. |
