BSNL, the biggest telecom industry of India, togetherly with Chennai-based IT solutions company Novatium in order to provide cheap and better broadband internet services in the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh.

Since the broadband penetration in UP is quite low and lower still in rural areas. With this partnership, 75,000 broadband connections in UP (East) telecom circle this fiscal is being targetted. Later, other Indian states are also targetted for this facility.

So users, What kind of Internet products can we expect in Rural areas in the near future?

Wi-Fi connections

I think once the demand of of Internet grows in rural areas, the number of computers will increase in almost each and every house and in that case per family demand of Internet will also increase. Seeing the cost of broadband in the urban area, I don't think every villager will opt for personal broadband. So I believe they will opt for Wi Fi connections which will reduce their costs.

Its a very good idea. I think in near future if every rural area will have a wifi then people will get to know new things and interacting to the new technologies. Because our rural area of India should be developed more n more. I think its very good idea for this.

Thanks

There's a new product in waiting from the AIRCEL stable called PEAK/ PEEK. Expected to be priced around 5000/-, it's a stripped down version of blackberry.

Increased awareness on usage and affordable packages & customisation suited to rural needs can make this a revolutionary product. The only drawback I foresee is that it does not support voice calls
