There is a remarkable gap/ mismatch between what is being taught in b-schools [excluding IIMS & other top ranking B-schools] & knowledge, skills , behavior businesses & organizations are looking for in new recruits.

Employability of freshers is the single largest challenge we are facing today.

Due to the recent economic slowdown a good number of experienced professionals have lost jobs too and are desparate for another job.

Along with this a huge population of youngsters with fresh qualification are also looking for jobs, without the requisite skills.
As entry in HRM is relatively difficult than Marketing & finace reason being no of vacancies are less &  recession + other factors, In this phase & market condition what kind of skills, or knowledge attributes an HR Trainee[ Fresher ] must have in order to become employable?

Thanks for creating the idea contest Deepti.

The HR department must carries out a wide range of tasks so the HR professionals need to consider the needs of both employees and management. HR professionals must have knowledge of the organization and its strategies if they are to contribute strategically. This knowledge also means that they must have understanding of the financial, technological, and other facets of the industry and the organization

organization, time & resource mgmt skills

HR trainee has to manage his/her time & other resources effectively in order to get max output from available resources within prescribed time limit...@ best possible quality..he/she has to take golden mean between result/task orientation & people involved... This is why many organisations seek “well-balanced graduates”, students whom not only perform consistently well throughout university (ie. Credit average), but managed to be involved in other activities such as part-time work, volunteer, community activities, act as active members of student societies and professional associations.

Lack of proper alignment between Institutes, Industry & Government

idea posted by Ameet Ranjan Regional HR - North India, Maclellan Integrated Services India Pvt Ltd

Skill gap among Indian graduates can be reduced only if institutes, industry and government work together in a productive environment.

Engineering & Management institutions need to upgrade themselves and regularly update their curriculum in sync with industry needs and improve on the teaching methods to equip graduates with skills to formulate, analyse, and solve a real life problem using standard techniques.

This is clear indicator that to resolve this scenario institutions and employers have to resolve their differences, interact and collaborate to design education programmes in a sustained manner that respond to the specific skill demands of the industry. Government’s role should be to ensure that while the issue of employability is addressed, the education provided is holistic and not company or industry centric. One can conclude that the urgent need for higher education institutions and universities is to focus on the skills of the graduates through sustained interactions between industry, civil societies and the communities to produce effective knowledge workers as well as compassionate human beings. Each institution should define the set of skills that a graduate is supposed to have after each semester and continuously measure such skills. Further, institutions need to change pedagogical style from teacher-centric to student-centric, and include more assignments for students to independently analyze and apply tools on real life problems. Only through such changes in the teaching-learning process will the future graduates become more employable.

Dedication to Continuous Improvement

idea posted by Kriti Das HR Manager, ANZ Information Technology
HR professionals need to help managers coach and develop their employees. The goal is continued improvement and innovation as well as remediation. And looking to their own houses, the HR professional also uses technology and other means to continuously improve the HR function itself.
