Using Solar, Wind or any alternative energy

idea posted by Shailena Varma Logistics Manager, Target

Retailers should use Solar, Wind, or any alternative energy to run their business which is not harmful for the environment. They can use small scale wind generators that are an economical method to produce your own energy while reducing your carbon footprint.solar products like solar lighting, panels, heaters, batteries etc can also be used by the retailers. This would definitely make them green.

The use of solar products are increasing day by day and it shows that there is a need of more solar products because the expenses of solar products are once and the benefits are life long. Its good investment it should be explain to all and hence green retail will be in boom.

I completely endorse your idea ma'am. Use of solar or any other alternative energy would definitely help the retailers go green. Also it will be a sort of awareness program for the people who as of now know very little about renewable energies and their uses.

Selling more green products

idea posted by Renu Iyer Trading Manager, BPL

Retailers should take steps to change the way they do business that is, they should stop using products which are harmful for humans as well as for the whole environment and should deal with more green products. Retail concerns should be a place for the eco-conscious person to shop and should find all things "GREEN" in one place. They should provide support to people who are searching out products and information that are environmentally safe and energy efficient.

sure the proof of the pudding is in the eating. unless they sell green products - others tasks are of a tertiary nature - selling green products being green in the primary business that the retialer is in.

Renu is right. Retailers should use more and more eco-friendly products and should stop using products like plastic packets which are harmful for the environment. There are many alternatives eco-friendly products coming in the markets these days. I think the use of those products should be promoted more and more by the retailers by which the retail industry will go green...

More than usage of Green Products by the Retailers is educating the customers of he Green concept. This is best done at the Retailer level citing themselves as an example.

reduce carbon footprint and stop wastage

The paper used for billing, the bags and price-tags, toilet paper and the other POS materials used for in-store branding  everything can be made from recycled paper, they can use eco-friendly lighting and even the architecture can be planned in such a way that natural light is used during day time.

Prudent use and regular maintenance of ACs and other appliances to reduce power wastage are also small steps that can go a long way.

Yes, what Veena said is correct. Retailers can offer customers  eco-friendly plastic bags. Instead of dumping the bag after use customers can bring it back to the outlet every time he comes to shop. If damaged, retailers can replace that bag free of cost and they dont have to suffer any loss as these bags can be send for recycling. This helps in preventing from harming the environment.
