For freelancers, social media has been a real game changer, and brings networking to a whole new level. Depending on how you look at it, the competition either just got a lot tougher or the playing field burst wide open. Social media is a double-edged sword; although getting a job is often still about who you know, connecting online means there is the opportunity to know so many more people.

So, what benefits a freelancer can get from social media sites??

Being everywhere

idea posted by Suchi smita HR Executive, Ropra Infosolution

Establishing yourself online is the first step for freelancers looking to use social media, but where to do it? There are a handful of uber-popular social media sites and dozens more popping up every day. Creating an online identity and cultivating it well on different platforms is key.

Being a freelancer can be very frustrating, but it can be very rewarding, too.

ThanQ Suchi!

Provided you have +ve attitude, sky is the limit .  No competition from anywhere. Fly as high as your wings support you.  You are unto yourself.

That is the feeling of a freedom-loving freelancer.

Right now, the winds are  blowing  fine.

Cost Effective Way To Do Business

idea posted by ANAND M Freelancer, Human Resources (HR) Consulting

I found that the social media platform has an immense opportunity where a free lancer like me and many others find easily their prospective customers & clients. It helps to promote one's business in a much cheaper & effective way. In future social media sites will act as a tool which will be used to enhance business & relationships..

Making big money with social media!

idea posted by Wim Vincken Director, Zangville

Social Media from one side (the side of the visitors and users) is one thing (and you can't earn money from that), but using the social media for marketing techniques is something else and you can do very interesting things here).

An example to check this out and experiement with it until you find your technique and then implement it. This is what I did:

  1. Create a website with content (in my example I created http://forum.writingcenter4.info and http://ficdom.net. Both websites are Harry Potter fanfiction websites, a very specific market with limited number of visitors, very hard to market that.
  2. Then - for this experiment sake - I used one specific type of social media, the Yahoo User Groups, also specialized in fanfiction and Harry Potter specifically.
  3. I posted a message about a new fanfiction story, which forces Harry Potter to become part of a Harem with him as Master with three beautiful girls as his brides.
  4. When I posted that message, the number of visitors went from 0 (zero) to 20,000 (20K) visitors within a hour.

This is an example of the many tests I did to study the 'power of the social media'. After some months of experimenting, I developed several methods of generating targeted traffic to any website I choose to.

Can you image the money, which can be earned with advertisement, special announcements where people pay money for when there is suddenly 30K of website traffic out of nowhere? How to increase sales of websites, which are selling products and services, but did not have the traffic?

It's a new way, a more direct way of marketing, to use the social media to earn more money.

Anyone who wants to know more and more details, let me know.

You can do the same, create a website and study social media in this way. There are not many people willingly to share their experiences in this area and there are no books (who have the facts straight and actually understand what they are yelling about), so you need to find it out yourself.

Wim

P.S. Those two sites were very successful and I decided to continue hosting them. Can't shut them down after the experiments with them and letting all those people without.

I would agree with is shared here. Social Media no doubt has vast opportunities however there are scams as well to be cautioned against. As all good things this too has its own set of negatives. Having said this from my personal experience I can share that I have got my Clients and projects mainly from the use of Social Media.

Just a word of caution - if you are building yourself for Social Media then remember that it is a commitment. Do not give up half way. Many a times you may feel that you are doing a monologue but still continue. You will have people coming to you if your content is good.

Due to space constrains I cannot share much here though.

Incase anyone is interested in knowing more please do hop onto these 4 links that am sharing.
