I completely agree with Mr.George first of all there are many people who own computer but dont have internet access .The potential market at the Bottom of pyramid will also remain untapped.So for this type of advertisng to gain momentum specially in India will take some time.Awarness regarding this medium is also required,

The answer is quite simple. In a country with a large population as our and with literacy rates hovering around 30% how can you expect social media advertising to increase even if internet usage increases.The medium itself is new to most in our country. A large marjority still uses internet as a means to check mail and chat. Even in advanced countries social media hasnt taken of in a major way with advertisers because of the fact that the medium itself is being used as a recreational tool and not a serious one. And when using a recreational tool one doesnt like to see commercial messages. Also the fact that in india community gathering is still prevalent and here i mean real life communities and not internet based ones. Only in the west internet community values are placed higher than real life communities because there the societ itself is depraved and doesnt have any soical values which is a reason why there increasingly virtual communities, social communities et al are gaining popularity. Thanks to our indian bonnds of family ties, our real life community is still vibrant and alive. We havent deteriorated to that extent to switch to online communities. Hence it will take a long time before ad spends can indeed pick up in india. Till that time its the good ol newspaper, Radio and TV in that order. |
