Social networking sites are no longer the preserve of teenagers keeping in touch with friends, but a popular way for people to communicate with their peers, business contacts and keep up to date with their industry.Sadly, hackers, spammers and phishers see these as a great resource too, and social networking posts can send confidential information out of the organisation. What do you think on what's safe to share on social networking sites?

It would be interesting to see what you guys say about this... :)

Publish whatever you want to make public!!

idea posted by Satwinder Singh Program Manager, Confidential

Whatever you want to hide, there is always an option available on networking sites to do so..

So it's upto you to decide what you want to publish to entire audience or what to hide..!  Just to be on the safer side..!!

PS: You must share or interact to be socially active in networking..! cheers!

The information in respect of home address, phone numbers and photos may not be appropriate to put on the social networking sites, as it may leak identity theft

Beware of Too Much Personal Information

idea posted by sumitra dutta Consultant, XYZ

Social networking means opening up and sharing information online with others, but there are few information you should never share online like home address , home phone number and mobile number. Protecting ourself from sharing Too Much Personal Information can save us from identity theft and even protect our physical safety.

Please do not put too many photos /snaps , as hackers hunt for this first. They just copy-paste on their profile. In case you have put snaps do lock it and share only with your friends.

Be careful while joining the communities, new friendships.

Of course we can share our skills ,qualification, talent, industry, hobbies as these reflect our personality.

Personal contact nos shouldnt be put instead i think E-mail id can be put on it. Incase you get any strangers mail just SPAM in your mail ID.

Adjust your Settings...

Adjust to see how someone you aren't connected with, will view your profile. Allow them to view a bit of personal information. Decide what you don't want non-friends to see and change the settings. Decide what works for you; you can switch your settings at any time.

Internet is a public resource.

Post only information that you are comfortable with others seeing and knowing about you. This includes information and photos in your profile. Once you post information online, you can't retract it. Even if we remove the information from the site, saved or cached versions may still exist on other people's machines.
