You have an interview.

You arrived on time, you're making excellent eye contact and you're acing every question that's being thrown at you. You've got this job in the bag, until you hear the interviewer utter, “What’s your biggest weakness?”

You will take your time to answer and suddenly you are blank on what to say, so you answer "I have no weakness". There you told a lie and you lost your job.

How will you answer this question during an interview ? or what answer do you expect from the candidate ?

“What’s your biggest weakness?”

Converting Weakness into Strength

idea posted by Kalaivani R Technical Recruiter, CEI India Pvt Ltd

The answer which an interviewer expects from the candidate should be in such a way that even your weakness should be considered as your strength. For eg: One can say that he/she is a committment oriented person, wherein if he/she has committed to do a task somehow they will finish it what so ever the task and deadline be. This may be considered as the weakness for the individual but for the interviewer its not so...

Good question Nikhil. Give the reference of others, how they respond bcoz of your behaviour, that leads to your strength. Like you say "sometime people are getting irritated because I chase them regularly" its a weakness because people are irritating, same time it is showing that you are a rigorous follower. Means your monitoring and tracking is good enough and it will be assumed that in future you will be a good planner, implementor and a good leader ofcourse.

List your weaknesses

If i will list all my weaknesses, aren't I just giving the interviewer reasons to think that I am not up to the job?

If I will read most other interview advice guides, they will say that you should list some weaknesses that are just as much strengths. Things like "I am a perfectionist" or "I work too hard". But these responses are JUST PLAIN WRONG. Let me explain why.

When an interviewer ask's "what are your major weaknesses?" then he will looking for three key things like:

1. Self awareness
2. Awareness of your impact on others
3. Self development

So work out what your weaknesses are, and package them with the following three steps to make your interviewer know that you are the right person for the job!

1. Self awareness
As an interviewer, He would like to see that you are aware of your 'weakness' really is a weakness.

2. Awareness of your impact on others
Your weakness may also be impacting others in a negative way, so it is good to show that you are aware of how your behaviour rubs off on other people.

Step 3. Self development
Finishing your response off in this way will truly show that you understand that you have a weakness and that you are doing something about it!!

Remember, everyone has weaknesses. They are not something to be hidden, but something to be fixed. So show your interviewer that you have set about fixing your weaknesses.

I am TOO EMOTIONAL

Hi,

My biggest weakness is that I am too emotional.

Many times people make you fool cause of your emotions; they just take advantage of you by making you fool. And this quality of your character becomes a weakness.

That is why I have given this name to myself. And I think many of us have this weakness within us.

Regards,

Rohini.

Give the honest answer instead of bluffing

idea posted by Rohini Kaushal HR Executive, Etech, Inc pvt ltd

Hi,

While taking an interview i want a very honest answer........candidate should say the correct thing weakness is weakness no matters how others are reacting on it.

Somebody says that his/her family is his/her weakness...for some it’s their short temper.

Candidate should give the correct answer for this question.

The main aim to ask this question is to know that how much a person can speak about them and how clearly they can explain about their weaknesses if they are asked about.

Regards,

Rohini.

Your Weakness should be a help to the employer in his business

Ideally, you should tell such a weakness in you that is genuinely a weakness, but at the same time helps the employer in his business objectives. Having said this, my views on this are as follows

Though in a lot of interviews this question is asked as a formality, if the inreviewer is good, he/she would be probing to see how well you learn from your work experience and how well you do introspection.

So, you go through all your work experience, and see what did you do wrong? Is there a pattern in you going wrong. Verify in all departments of human attitude & behaviour in a profession. That pattern is your weakness. Now, look at how have you dealt with that as your experience grew. And plan for the future course of activities on that. Explain one of your such weaknesses to the interviewer, and explain to him how you improved over a period of time. It would be excellent, if this matches with the first line also.

DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW YOUR WEAKNESSES????

I think most of us do not know even our weaknesses…….at least biggest weakness……….and even if you know your weakness it keep on changing with time……………finally if interviewer is asking me about my weaknesses and strengths than it is surprising…….I think he suppose to find out the weaknesses and strengths of the person……

I talk too much

When you have no weakness, then the answer should something relevant to the workplace. But be honest as it could come back to you later in your career.

One of the answer would be " I talk too much " this means in the age of internet, communicating effectively in person is a huge plus. So if you talk too much let them knowhow it shall benefit the business like you can get on phone and talk to prospect clients and partners.

I would be frank and say what exactly my weakness is rather than converting my weakness into strength.  You never know when it will bounce to you.

Probably the question itself is asked by the interviewer to see if he/she judged the applicant correctly. If the interviewer spotted a couple of weaknesses on the applicant (and one of which could eliminate the applicant), and the applicant also tells the same, then the applicant is out of the game.

My biggest weakness is Punctuality. If any one dont careabout time I hate those fellows may be he my boss that does not matter tome.

Also during work I hate gossiping and relaxation.Everybody should be sincere during work irrespective of time(that how much time he/she worked).

No one should have any ego problem,if any one of the work place have any doubt he/she should consult to proper fellow ,irrespective of his position.
