What companies look for while bringing offshore work back home?

Costs of reversing an offshore operation do not only cover the facilities and assets - it extends to data security, staff skills, system disruptions and inefficiencies, low user or client satisfaction, client loss, and maybe much more. So, companies should do proper analysis before calling back their off-shore work into the home countries.

Further companies also incur added cost to their shareholders due to the loss of business. Thus, it becomes vital for the top management whether to call for a fall back or not.

Of course cost is the major thing companies looking for. In addition they got some other 'Bonus Points' like the so called 'Global Presence', and 'Exposure' some time for some business tie ups of companies based on other countries.

Businesses just for fun sake can't call their business back to the home countries. A lot of investors, both domestic & international would have invested in the firm. So, if a business calls back its sister concerns or branches from other countries it may create a strain among the main firm & the investors.

So, firms should also look after this as they receive majority of funds from them.

The skills developed for clients overseas can be profitably deployed for local customers. The efficiencies resulting from the work done for clients abroad can be very useful local companies.

If our companies are discouraged by US and other countries, it will do a lot of good to our companies here which can become globally competitive adopting the skills/processes.

Thanks US and other countries for taxing work done to clients which made them cost effective and competitive. Now they may become handicapped. Time for Indian companies to move in.
