Global thinking

idea posted by Darshana Sawant HR Manager, Leading IT services company

According to me one should staying informed on global trends and events to survive in this diverse environment. Since every companies are becoming multinational companies nowadays, to work in a mnc one should know what is happening all around the globe to manage things more effectively. You should know the trends and strategies that are used in other companies and try to implement it in your company to compete with others in the global market.

I am agree with Darshana ,if one who want to success in this world h has to be global thinking ,because now companies not only expending within the country but ,they are opening their branches out side the country. So they need people who not only knows his cultural but also ready to adopt other's cultural. So it only be possible if he does not keep blockage in accepting the cultural's of other's if required..

Ajay,

You can have got Global Think skill by reading much, meeting and sharing cultural and business knowledges with another people.

By the way we support ideas and write our comments via our culture & disciplines. If Darshana or anybody can collect and evaluate our ideas acc. to our region/country it woulld be very useful for us. For example, in " why women can not promote" poll,my comments was related to my country/region.But if you ask " Is this valid for everywhere ?" I reply this question acc to country/region with my help of wide connections and my knowledge/experiences.

Managing diversity

idea posted by Gargi Sinha Senior Consultant, Hewitt Associates

I think at this present cultural environment one should know how to manage the diversity in the organization. By getting people who are from different backgrounds to work together effectively as unified teams will help the company to be successful. To manage people to work together from all over the globe is not an easy job, you should be careful while taking decision, it should be done by keeping the culture in mind.

Leadership Skills

idea posted by manjari jha Soft Skills Trainer, IKC-IHTM

Though it is quite 'understood' that leadeship skills is must for the development and efficiency of teams. But in case of multicultural teams and cuturally diverse environment people need very strong leader who can make them adhere to common vision & values. A systematic approach to the cuturally diverse environment is required in order to create a framework that takes care of cultural dimensions as well as individual characteristics and behavior.

Leadership here won't be controlling the crowd but will aim at engaging, fully empowering, creating interdependence and connect between the employees from different cultural background.

become a leader is not that to put pressure on your team to do the work under pressure if you want that someone do work under your supervision so tell them smoothly and silently to do that if he/she is understanding person he/she definitely do that better then your expectations but if u think that you are a leader or a boss or can put pressure on any one for any work then also he/she can do work but by his/her full courages , support or full knowledge

so lastly if you want to turned each & every candidate belongs to any where or any culture become very smooth & soft nature do talk with them always with the smilling face and polite ness

my dear there is only one thing g8 in india

love & patience

Focus towards the objective

idea posted by Renne Sharma HR Analyst, ABC Consulting

I agree with you manjari but I think the key to successful leadership is focus. You can’t lead in a hundred different directions at once, so setting an effective leadership direction depends on your decision not to lead in the other directions. Focusing light rays means concentrating the light energy on one spot. Focusing effort means picking the most important thing to do and then concentrating your team’s effort on doing it.

the main is also to maintain & prepare your team according to you is not to treat them as subordinators but treat them as your friends only but not in higher limit means don't be so much familier with them keep your prestige also on them but do familier work with them also always be doing work with politeness and patience

if you want to change a person and make him/her like you first you have to dissolve in them like her/him then slowly and smoothly try to turn him/her in your direction like our earth does so that he/she does not understand what's going on with them and when every one gets changed according to you then you do much better leader ship

Think Global, Act Local

idea posted by DEBASIS MOHAPATRA Analyst, PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS

In a world which is so fast adopting global standards because of easy access to information, one cannot but ignore to know about the global ways of dealing with workplace diversity. However, ignoring the local issues, especially those emanating from the local culture, can cost a lot to the organization. So when you are IBM and you have to open an office in China or India, you have to think of different workplace management techniques than what you would have thought of when you opened an office in USA or Australia or may be Bosnia Herzegovina!! Within a country itself, if it is a geographical behemoth (like China or India), the workplace management may also vary depending on whether your office is in Chennai or in Gurgaon. While Lohri or Baisakhi or Pongal may fall on the same day, it needs to be celebrated differently at different offices. The example is a pointer towards how varying cultures can influence workplace management styles.

People learn in adversity, and from adverse people. Assuming that the behavior is not as expected, it is the beginning of learning to behave correctly. Accept the cultural diffrences and appreciate being given an opportunity. Approach needs to be amaluclate with regard to professionalism; and your counterpart also would start appreciating.

I think if One has Understanding & Reasoning abilities, then he or she can very well swim across any Waters. There has to be the ability to Understand & Adapt towards the  Change along with its Consequences.

Also, one should understand the due Reason of the Change & its acceptability.

Thats where the skill lies. You are either a Manager or a leader, what matters is that you can understand ytour team and can effectively lead them.

You may have a team that has diverse cultures or even diverse attitude and aptitude. As a Manager you need to understand and develop each with their own plusses and minusses!! Leader and Manager are different stories but handling people is a skill that every Manager or Leader should posses!!

Good ideation Darshana :)

Managing Culturally diverse environment

idea posted by Mohamed Sihabudeen, (US Army Contractor) Administrative Assistant, AECOM

By removing the major barriers that interfere with people from diverse cultures work together. The best method to do this is through understanding and practicing better communication: Learn to listen,

Listen for what is really being said,

Not what you want to hear.

Invite others to be a part of the discussion. Learn to communicate clearly and fairly. Do not misjudge people because of accent or grammar. Test for understanding. Ask questions to be certain you are clear on what is being said. Adapt your communication style to fit the situation. The telephone causes problems in understanding between cultures. Be explicit. Individuals from different cultures may react differently. Know with whom you are communicating. Use language that fosters trust and alliance. Each person wants to succeed in this venture. Be calm and positive. When conflicts arise, the problem may result from style rather than content strive for understanding. Review, revise and revisit your main objective to be certain the content is clear. How you say something may be more important than what you say.

Coalitions which are truly culturally diverse and serve diverse populations must:

Be representative of their target community and communicate clearly. Emphasize the advantages of their cultural diversity.

Celebrate the contributions of each culture. Encourage the positive outcome of interacting with these cultures.

In this environment, it is important that neither prejudice nor discrimination be tolerated, with consequences outlined in the constitution and bylaws or operational agreement.

Self- awareness and sensitivity training should be a prerequisite for coalition membership as well as initial and subsequent orientation and training. The leaders should help members to understand cultural diversity, realize such diversity can strengthen the coalition and acquaint them with specific roles they can play in developing a diverse group.

What we as a human lacks is accommodation. Every  body wants a slice of credit. The diversity in cultures of the world teaches to be more sensitive towards other,s sensibilities. The basic fundamental is if u are in Rome be a Roman. It means before one proceedes to work in areas different to your own ,learn as much as u can about their language, customs, sensibilities, traditions.Once one is equipped with all these he or she will have no hostile enviorenment.

Feel like a Manager

idea posted by Satwinder Singh Program Manager, Confidential

There's a big difference on being a Manager and a Leader..!!

The manager is someone who gets his/her tasks completed by any means..!!

The one who is working on the system, rather than working in the system!!

So feel like a manager and start using your powers to get things done.. once you share recognitions and appreciate others, you'll get the respect as well...

That's is what Manager is all about.! Cheers!

Soft Skills...

1.Openness to communication,

2.Understanding & respecting each others social as well professional functioning & traditions.

3.Getting things done as a part of the team, not having being the 'ego' of a leader or a manager.

4.Good sense of humor, for a lighter ambiance.

5.Having a good time during lunch or family gatherings occasionally.

I think we Indians are very good at all these, also as per my understanding, looking at youth & upcoming generations there should be harmony over the hierarchy.

It is important to have basic Knowledge of different Cultures. This basic knowledge will provide the key to manage expectations of people coming from different cultures. Also, cross cultural training this would ensure bridging the gap between the individuals in order to get a perfect Team Work.
