Social media marketing is a form of internet marketing which seeks to achieve branding and marketing communication goals through the participation in various social media networks. Two important aspects will be (1) Social media optimization which refers to on-page tactics through which a webmaster can improve a website for the age of social media and (2) is about building ways that fans of a brand or company can promote it themselves in multiple online social media venues.
Engagement goes much beyong blogging. Social media marketing seeks to influence social behaviour not to benifit the marketer, but to benifit the target audience and the society in general. Like commercial marketing, the primary focus is on the customer -- on learning what people want and need rather than trying to persuade them to buy what we happen to be producing.
