basel norms nd credit risk

I am personally of firmed opinion that Basel norms needs modification in present recessin scenario to provide a healthy banking services.

Supervisory control be widen and critical on increasing trend of E-banking related frauds.

Iam also of the opinion that while carrying ratiing of an Industry, impact of local unorganised market must be ascertained.Asuitable matrix be deviced for the purpose.

Under Basel II norms, banks would have to adopt standardised approach for credit risk and basic indicator approach for operational risk for computing their capital requirements under the revised framework, according to the new Basel II guidelines, Banks are required to obtain the prior approval of the RBI to migrate to the internal rating-based approach for credit risk and the standardised approach or the advanced measurement approach for operational risk for computing regulatory capital requirements.

According to me most of the Indian banks have improved on their capital adequacy ratio in line with the global Basel II norms but it needs to do more on international risk management practices in the wake of increasing pressure of the non-performing assets more so during this recession.
