Everybody wants to invest that extra income into some secured fund that will have a good growth in future & will yield a good retun. Before buying an investment plan that yields greater results and minimum risks, an investor must acquire detailed understanding of the economic trends.

in practical theory the benefit on switches in ULIP ..no use. first point is that any ULIP plan take min 3 years to come at breakeven point. (invested amount = fund value). this is because the charges factor in any ULIP PLAN. INSTED OF THAT AS A FINANCIAL PLANNING POINT, SPLIT UP YOUR BOTH NEEDS LIFE PROTECTION AND INVESTMENT. NEVER MERGER IT.

I SIPs are the best investment plans. I have been investing in SIP for last 18 months. I am getting good retuns.  and i also investing in government banks as  fixed deposits, but when i compare with SIPs , the sip is the best.

I think SIPs are better option than ULIPs, If investing in SIPs for more than 3yrs, it can be a wonderful option of getting handsome return against the index.

@sarvesh Sir in SIPs switching is there, you dont need to redeem first, you can switch.

Unit linked insurance plan (ULIP)

idea posted by Arun Kumar K Security/ Equity Research Analyst, Thomson Reuters

If you ask me, i would say ULIP is one of the top investment plan where i would like to invest. It is as simple as any insurance plan but unlike normal insurance plans its value is linked with underlying assets like equities or fixed return investment or mixture of both. The part of premium paid towards this investment is assured sum & balance will be invested in underlying assets. The investment is denoted as units and is represented by Net Asset Value (NAV). The beauty about this investment is that fund managers are so qualified in investment that they will invest our funds in such a way that it will assure maximum returns as it is a portfolio or mutual fund like investment & any loss incurred in one of the underlying assets will be covered up by another underlying assets.

Any other fixed deposit instruments

At present I would not invest in ULIPs because of the risk involved and the hazy regulations that are existing right now and absence of a proper regulatory authority for ULIPs. The best option would be look at the different fixed deposit schemes available with different banks and look at the one most suitable for you, because every one has a need and a long term goal while investing. In case no one scheme suits best, a combination of investments which mitigate the risk and optimize the returns can be chosen.

Diversified Portfolio

idea posted by Vipin Bhasin Private Equity/Hedge Fund/VC-Manager, Indian Investment Co.
I do not prefer to invest in a single product. we have to invest in a diversified portfolio which will include SIPs, Real Estate, Equities, Bonds, Gold, Insurance. & allocation of fund in these sectors will depend on our monthly investment capacity. We have to invest in all sectors on monthly basis rather to one time. and the combination of portfolio will lead to higher return. However selection of mutual fund, equities, real estate etc are also part of our self analysis....

Sundaram BNP Paribas Floating Rate Fund

idea posted by Ekta Dutta Hedge Fund Analyst/Trader, ING Vysya Bank

ICICI Fund is considerable...but this fund is also worth investing...

The investment plan yields reasonable income by designing a portfolio entailing floating rate debt and fixed rate plans, interim bonds and capital market plans.

a) Face Value: Rs. 10 Rs/Unit

b) Minimum Investment: Rs. 500

c) No exit load on Regular Plans, 0.50% exit load on Long Term Regular Plans if the amount less than Rs 10 lakhs is  redeemed within 180 days of the commencement of the plan.

I would prefer ULIPS.As Ulips are the most flexible plan it provides number of benefits. 1. It gives you different fund option so that you can invest according to your risk appetite. 2. It provides insurance cover. 3. It allows you to switch between funds and also provide you with the option to surender your units after the lock-in period.
